Toyota Expands Recall of Lexus SUVs
A problem with floor mats and gas pedals that could cause unintended acceleration led Toyota Motor Corp. to expand a vehicle recall for its Lexus SUVs.
The recall is being expanded to include 154,000 Lexus RX 350 and RX 450 H sport-utility vehicles for the 2010 model year at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), according to the Wall Street Journal. The original recall was from 2009 and was issued because of reports of floor mats causing accelerator pedal entrapment. The NHTSA contacted Toyota last month after it saw an increase in customer complaints regarding this problem in Lexus SUVs. Toyota told the agency that it also received an increase of complaints regarding the same issue.
The NHTSA said it is now requesting additional information from the carmaker and is considering starting a probe into whether Toyota met its requirement to notify the agency and conduct a recall in a timely manner, according to the Wall Street Journal.
