Toyota Sued in Product Liability Lawsuit

A California judge has set a November 1st start date for a product liability lawsuitfiled against Toyota Motor Corp. over unintended acceleration issues in its vehicles.

According to Law360 (subscription required), plaintiffs claim that Toyota’s electronic throttle control system is defective. Toyota is facing a number of lawsuits that have been consolidated in both state and federal court. The product liability lawsuits claim the automaker purposely withheld defects that caused vehicles such as the Camry and Prius to suddenly accelerate.

In 2009 and 2010, Toyota issued a recall for close to eight million cars in the United States because of a “sticking accelerator pedals and a design flaw that could cause floor mats to trap the pedals.”
