Countdown to Sport Relief
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile fun run is returning to Southampton’s Guildhall Square on Sunday 23 March 2014.
Runners are signing up to fundraise, get fit and have fun. So far hundreds of people have signed up to run or walk the course… but we need more!
Part of the city’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the Cultural Quarter will welcome crowds to complete the 1, 3 or 6 mile course around the central parks.
Volunteer organisations will be organising and funding the event this year with teams sourced from Southampton City Council, Public Health England, Southampton Solent University, Sport Solent, the Saints Foundation and the University of Southampton Students’ Union.
The event will generate essential funding to boost valuable community projects both locally and internationally. Over the last few years Comic Relief’s charitable projects have invested back into the lives of the Southampton’s residents through community project.
Starting at 10.30am, the event will feature warm up sessions, student performances, cheerleading routines and stalls from Public Health England, Health Watch Southampton, University of Southampton’s Students’ Union and the Saints Foundation and Southampton City Council’s My Journey.
Sport Solent’s inflatable football pitch will also be there as well as Solent University’s Careers Coach. Plus, Southampton Football Club mascot Sammy Saint will be popping in to cheer on the runners.
Each participant to finish their race will receive a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile medal.
Entry fees: Adult £6, Children under 16 £3, Family (2 adults, 2 children) £15.
