Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games: The Southampton Mile 2014
There are just two weeks to go until the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Southampton’s Guildhall Square on Sunday 23 March 2014. Hundreds of local people have already signed up but there’s still time to bag a place, don a Sport Relief headband and enter the fun and games.
It’s now your turn to get sponsored and help transform the lives of people living here in our city, the UK and around the world. As part of Southampton’s 50th anniversary city celebrations, the Cultural Quarter will welcome crowds to complete the 1, 3 or 6 mile course around the central parks. Enter now at sportrelief.com. Entry fees are: Adult £6, Children under 16 £3, Family (2 adults, 2 children) £15. Each participant to finish their race will receive a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile medal.
Starting at 10.30am, the event will feature warm up sessions, student performances, a music from Batala, cheerleading routines by the Solent Ravens and Liberty Pride squads and stalls from Public Health England, Health Watch Southampton, University of Southampton’s Students’ Union (SUSU), the Saints Foundation and Southampton City Council’s My Journey. Plus, Southampton Football Club mascot Sammy Saint will be popping in to cheer on the runners.
Volunteer organisations are organising and funding the event this year with teams sourced from Southampton City Council, Public Health England, Southampton Solent University, Sport Solent, the Saints Foundation and the University of Southampton Students’ Union. On Friday 21 March the BBC will treat the nation to a special night of Sport Relief TV with presenters Gary Lineker, Davina McCall, David Walliams, Claudia Winkleman, Jack Whitehall, hosting a star-studded show from this year’s challenges about the incredible work Sport Relief supports. Then on Sunday 23 March it’s over to Southampton residents to come together and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief: The Southampton Mile.
