Franklin Wine Festival activities get started with exclusive dinner Sept. 29

Portion of proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Sept. 20, 2011 — Festivities leading up to the 2011 Franklin Wine Festival will begin with the first Vintner’s Dinner hosted by Sperry’s Restaurant in Cool Springs on Sept. 29.

The Vintner’s Dinner series features three of Middle Tennessee’s premier restaurants that collaborate with vineyards to pair wines with each course—ensuring an unforgettable culinary experience. As the first restaurant to host the dinner series, Sperry’s guests will enjoy a four-course meal paired with selections from Napa Valley’s Trefethen Family Vineyards.

“We’re excited to work with Trefethen Vineyards and I believe our guests will enjoy the selection of wines we have chosen,” said Al Thomas, owner of Sperry’s Restaurant. “Our menu and wine selection has been specially crafted by our chef and local vintners, and is sure to please.”

Not deviating from their fare of Southern favorites, the menu for the night includes: (first course) roast beet salad with micro greens and a crumbled goat cheese paired with a dry Reisling; (second course) smoked salmon with chef’s dressing paired with a Chardonnay; (third course) grilled lamb chops served over smashed new potatoes with a demi-glace and paired with a Merlot; (fourth course) espresso brownie with a crème anglaise paired with a Cabernet.

The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and is limited to 75 guests. Tickets are $125 per person and can be purchased by contacting Sarah Beatty at (615) 522-5659 or sarah.beatty@mentorakid.org. A portion of proceeds from the Vintner’s Dinner series and Franklin Wine Festival benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.

About Trefethen Vineyards

Trefethen Family Vineyards produces a diverse range of award-winning varietal, blended and reserve wines – all from its Napa Valley estate – exhibiting the classic hallmarks of fine wine: richness with elegance, concentration with finesse, complexity with harmony, and sophistication with approachability. Reflecting both the relatively cool climate of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley estate vineyard and the Trefethen family’s preference for balanced wines, Trefethen wines dovetail perfectly with the growing movement of connoisseurs in the United States away from wines of unbridled alcohol and ripeness toward wines of greater finesse and food-friendliness.
