Brighten up your Butty with tasty pickles for British Sandwich Week
With British Sandwich Week just around the corner, it’s perhaps time to brighten up our butties with some interesting accompaniments. Fine food producer Opies has a range of speciality pickles that will cheer up a cheddar sandwich and revitalise a ham roll. Capers, gherkins and even pickled walnuts will all help to invigorate the humble sandwich.
Salty, tasty capers will add a depth of flavour to a sandwich filling. Opies capers are carefully preserved in spirit vinegar, why not try them with:
A tasty Tuna Sandwich – mix tuna with parsley, lemon juice, capers and mayonnaise. Delicious on freshly baked wholemeal bread.
Enliven Egg butties – mix boiled eggs with finely chopped shallots, capers, snips of fresh dill and mayonnaise. Make sure you add lettuce for crunch.
Smoked Salmon open sandwich – mix cream cheese, finely diced red onion and chopped capers and spread onto rye bread. Top with a generous serving of smoked salmon.
Gherkins add crunch to a sandwich as well as a distinctive flavour and go exceptionally well with meats and cheese. Naturally low in fat, gherkins are a healthy alternative that can be used to bulk up your butty. Opies gherkins are hand-picked and carefully preserved in distilled malt vinegar. Try adding gherkins to your favourite sandwich:
- Meaty Pastrami – an American classic. Pastrami, gherkins, mustard on rye bread
- Cheer Up Chicken – mix chicken breast with chopped gherkins, onions and mayonnaise. Add black pepper to taste.
- Toasted Cheese – for a crunchy, tasty alternative to toasted cheese sandwiches add sliced gherkins, coriander (and a little chilli for a kick)
- Roast Beef – mix gherkins, finely chopped red onion, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise and a little honey. Top roast beef and add lettuce for crunch.
Pickled Walnuts offer a great alternative to traditional pickles. Delicious when served with granary bread, sliced honey roast ham, a wedge of brie topped with fresh salad and chopped Opies Pickled Walnuts.
The Opies range is suitable for vegetarians and is widely available in Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Waitrose and Ocado.
