A little like the infamous Proclaimers song, Stag Bakeries is travelling over 500 miles from Stornoway to London in September to launch a range of new products. The award-winning bakery will showcase new savoury crackers, shortbread and cheese straws at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair, an international food event which takes place at London’s Olympia exhibition centre from 7 – 9 September 2014.

The trade show, which will welcome buyers from across the UK and overseas, will provide the perfect platform for Stag to launch their new products, which have been all been produced to reflect Stag’s policy to develop products with provenance.

Stag has partnered with the last traditional smokehouse in the Hebrides, Stornoway Smokehouse, to develop ingredients for their new Smoked Butter Oatcakes. Oats and butter are gently smoked over oak and beech to create a rich smoky oatcake that is perfect served with cheese.

Stag will also officially launch four varieties of all-butter hand-baked cheese straws each made with a carefully selected Scottish speciality cheese:

Highland Dunlop, a carefully selected Scottish speciality cheese produced in the Scottish Highlands. This organic, unpasteurised and traditionally cloth bound cheese melds perfectly with the buttery pastry.

Smoked Dunlop, an organic, unpasteurised cheese that is traditionally smoked over whisky barrel shavings for a delicate smoky taste.

Strathdon Blue is an aged flavoursome and aromatic blue cheese.

Ayrshire Bonnet, a hard pressed goats’ cheese produced on a family-owned creamery in Ayrshire.

“The Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London is a key event for Stag Bakeries and is the ideal place to launch new products. The show enables us to meet with existing customers and also promote our brand to prospective buyers. We are confident that the show will provide us with lots of sales leads in order to continue to grow the Stag brand” comments Charlie, Macdonald, owner of Stag Bakeries. “Stag already has an entire range of products that have exceptional provenance, and we are delighted with the latest new products which are redolent of our Scottish roots.”

Stag’s baking heritage on the beautifully unspoilt Outer Hebridean island of Lewis stretches back to 1885 and although the bakery is now modern, many things have not changed since those early days.

Skilled people, attention to detail, traditional recipes and time honoured methods are still at the heart of this artisan bakery and it shows in the products

The product range includes sweet and savoury biscuits.
