Sproud are Changemakers with a Purpose. To challenge the current and to increase transparency in the food sector are the two driving forces behind Sproud's latest sustainability initiative - to label all its products with their actual climate footprint. Instead of using general calculations based on sector specific benchmarks which is the norm in the industry today, Sproud's climate data is based on real primary data.

Sproud was born out of ambitious ideas for sustainability, with the goal of creating a better food system - one pea-based drink at a time. As part of this mission, Sproud aims to increase transparency for consumers, so that it's easy to make climate-friendly choices while shopping. Since its creation, Sproud has used CarbonCloud to measure the climate footprint of its products. Now, Sproud is taking the next step and printing the exact climate footprint on the packaging of their products in Europe and the UK.

Sprouds CEO Sara Berger comments:

-      We are proud about sustainability work and Sproud's low climate footprint. We have nothing to hide. On the contrary, we have made mindful choices in regards to everything from the purchase of raw materials to packaging and we carefully measure our carbon footprint. We want our consumers to be able to make climate-smart decisions in-store with ease, so we are putting the carbon footprint on all of our packaging. Increasing the proportion of plant-based foods is an important contribution to meet the world's climate challenges.

The estimated climate footprint includes all parts of the food chain, from agriculture, production and transportation of raw materials, as well as packaging and transportation to the store. As a consumer, you get access to the actual product's life cycle analysis in CarbonCloud's ClimateHub at the touch of a button.

In the Climatehub, consumers will be able to see the climate footprint of all of Sproud's products in the key markets of Sweden and the United Kingdom. In the database, you can also compare the climate footprint between different consumer products to make it easier to choose the most climate consious alternative. Launched at the end of February, Sproud Vanilla was the first product to be labeled with its climate footprint directly on the packaging.

- In our climate database, you can see where in the life cycle the climate footprints are generated. There are many conscious consumers who want to see exactly what in the production chain generates CO2e emissions. You can also see differences between products in different markets where e.g. impact from agriculture differs due to different conditions for cultivation, says Erik Edlund, VP of Science at CarbonCloud

CarbonCloud not only promotes climate transparency but is also a key tool for Sproud in its efforts to constantly reduce the climate footprint of its products. As soon as a change in the product or production takes place, the climate footprint in the database is revised and it is easy to track historic development as well as follow how all calculations have been made.

-          We do not only show our actual figures but are also transparent with the data behind them and how the climate footprint is calculated. It is incredibly visual to compare Sproud with other dairy products. By choosing Sproud Unsweetends instead of Cow's milk, 3% fat, CO2e emissions are at least 80% lower. This type of comparison helps the consumer understand the climate impact of different foods, concludes Sara Berger.
