SRV to implement significant project for Aalto University Properties in Otaniemi

SRV will participate in developing the focal point of Aalto University’s campus by building in Otaniemi a new campus building as well as commercial premises in the Metro Centre. Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture will move into the building, designed by Verstas Arkkitehdit Oy, after it is completed in stages, in April-June 2018. The total value of the project, to be launched in February, is approximately EUR 101 million.

“The project to be implemented for Aalto University Properties Ltd will justifiably arouse interest in SRV. We have been involved in building and renovating cradles of science throughout Finland – including the Tampere University of Technology’s Campus Arena, the University of Helsinki’s Main Library, Kaisa House, and campus buildings at the University of Jyväskylä. The building that will rise at the focal point of the Otaniemi campus is a great addition to this group,” says SRV’s Juha Toimela, Vice President, Business Operations in Finland.

The building, to be completed in the area between Otakaari 1 and Tietotie 1, will have four floors, with a total area of 33,000 square metres. Multi-functional education and work facilities will be built for the use of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and a daily consumer good store, speciality stores and restaurant premises at the Metro Centre. For the premises, the goal is to achieve the ambitious energy class A, by utilising both geothermal and solar energy.

“The new building is an investment that will enhance our use of space and generate significant cost savings. We are currently occupying lot of leased premises, which we will be able to give up after the completion of the new building. In addition, by making the campus structure more compact, we can also reduce the number of different service points,” says Antti Tuomela, CEO of Aalto University Properties Ltd.

The project will be implemented utilising the alliance model, which is becoming more common in Finland. The project’s planning and construction will be jointly implemented, and the risks and benefits shared between an alliance consisting of SRV and Aalto University Properties Ltd.
