SRV to sign EUR 170 million contractor agreement on implementation of new Tampere University Hospital buildings

SRV will further strengthen its position as an implementer of the construction of major spearhead projects. Pirkanmaa Hospital District has made the decision to sign a contractor agreement with SRV relating to the project management contracting of the Tampere University Hospital (Tays) front yard project. In total,  worth EUR 170 million project management contract  agreement will be signed in July 2015 and it concerns the construction of three new buildings in the Tays front yard as well as a parking facility. The total investment value of the project is EUR 240 million. Construction will begin in August and the project will be completed in stages in the period 2017–2019.

“The total value of our order backlog is currently EUR 1.2 billion and the Tays front yard project contract signed in July will contribute to increasing this significantly. SRV has strong experience in the construction of health care facilities and demanding special premises and we will be actively pursuing similar projects in the future. The additional emergency room building at Jorvi Hospital located in Espoo and the HUSLAB laboratory building located at Meilahti in Helsinki will be completed this summer, and we are also involved in implementing the New Children’s Hospital, the renovation and extension of the Women's Hospital, and the Kalasatama health and wellness centre in Helsinki,” says Juha Toimela, Vice President, Business Operations in Finland.

The purpose of the new buildings is to respond to future care requirements and facilitate new operating practices. The new, even more functional facilities will serve those in most urgent need of care, such as children and young people, as well as women in labour and patients suffering from musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases.

“The reform of Tays is a major joint project in Pirkanmaa enabling us to ensure high quality and modern health care services for the region’s growing population. We are also renewing our operating practices, so that we can guarantee good care and service to each and every patient in the future. The project will have an important job-creating impact. In Pirkanmaa, the new construction will generate a total of 3,300 person-years of work in construction, transportation and subcontracting,” explains Pirkanmaa Hospital District Director Rauno Ihalainen.
