New Hardox HiTemp delivers extreme wear resistance at high temperatures

Hardox is a familiar name in all kinds of industries since more than 40 years. Wherever steel meets abrasive materials, Hardox will improve productivity and extend service life. During the years, SSAB has constantly developed Hardox to reach new levels of hardness and toughness.

One area has been a challenge to Hardox: wear situations in the 300-500°C* range. Traditional quenched and tempered wear resistant steels experience a loss of hardness at higher temperatures.

SSAB usually recommends the Toolox brand to tackle these conditions. It has high wear resistance and retains its original hardness and form stability at high temperatures. Even though Toolox performs well from a technical point of view, it is mainly intended for demanding tooling applications. For example forming molten brass, aluminum, and glass.

Now SSAB has transferred the heat-resistant properties of Toolox into Hardox HiTemp, a new Hardox grade available to order from September 2016. The properties of Hardox HiTemp are achieved by using high-quality raw material in combination with a carefully controlled manufacturing process. Hardox HiTemp provides a cost-efficient solution for wear resistance at high temperatures.

Hardox HiTemp is delivered as plate in the 15-30 mm range. It can be cut, welded, and machined by the same kind of workshop machinery and technology used for conventional steel.

*The temperature range is not strict and depends on the wear conditions. 300-500°C is equivalent to around 570-930°F.
