Total of 77 applications for SSAB’s Swedish Steel Prize 2015
An impressive 77 applications from around the world have been received for the Swedish Steel Prize, which SSAB will award for the 17th consecutive year.
The Swedish Steel Prize was established by SSAB in 1999 to recognize and reward creative, innovative products or solutions that utilize high-strength steel. For SSAB it is a way to inspire and disseminate knowledge about high-strength steel and how it can be used to develop stronger, lighter and more sustainable products.
No less than 77 companies have submitted applications for the competition. This is a higher figure than for many years. Both the quality and the scope of applications were of a very good standard. The increased number of applications shows that the prize plays an important role for customers around the world and in the industry.
Jan Kuoppa, who is responsible for nomination and jury work is very pleased with the number of entries this year.
“The applications this year cover a broad spectrum of segments ranging from the heavy vehicle and transport industry to agriculture and materials handling. Of course it’s very positive that so many people want to enter the competition.”
There is also a wide geographical spread, with a total of 28 countries represented. Most of the applications come from Europe (32), followed by the Americas (22), APAC (20) and Africa (3).
Nomination and jury work is now taking place and the four entries nominated for the Swedish Steel Prize 2015 will be announced in early October. SSAB will reveal the winner at the award-giving ceremony in Stockholm on November 19.
