delivers MSS 6000 to Vietnam
Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) has signed a contract for the supply of three MSS 6000 maritime surveillance systems for the Vietnam Marine Police. The systems will be installed on three new CASA C 212-400 aircraft. Installation and test of the systems in the aircraft, setting up of a gournd station and a mission command centre, as well as operational and technical training of the customers personnel is all included in the contract.
The Vietnam Marine Police hosted a most festive contract signing ceremony with participation of the Swedish and Spanish embassies to Vietnam. The contract signature was forgone by careful preparations and a number of meetings and visits to the respective countries in order to ensure that the requirements of the Vietnam Marine Police would be accommodated in the contract. "The Vietnamese Marine Police was founded in 1998 and we have been in contact with them since the start." says Mr. Olov Fäst of SSC. "We are very proud to get the opportunity to provide them with a powerful tool to enhance their surveillance capabilities." The systems will be used for patrolling the Vietnam seas, to detect and suppress oil spills and illegal fishing activities, to protect the economic zone and to take part in search and rescue operations. The MSS 5000 and 6000 systems have been installed for coast guard organisations on several different aircraft types and in countries all around the world, e.g. in Sweden, Estonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Greece, USA and Canada. The system uses state-of-the art technology and is designed to be an integral part of todays multi-faceted maritime surveillance mission.
Facts The MSS 6000 for the Vietnam is a fully integrated system including SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar), still and video cameras, AIS (Automatic Identification System), IR/UV scanner; FLIR and communication via high speed satellite data link and HF radio. Information from the sensors will be displayed in real time and is tightly integrated with a tactical map. The map image has a large number of operator selectable overlays for background information to support the mission. The map gives an up-to-date situation overview by providing the operator with time stamped information such as a plot of the flight track, continuously updated AIS information, observation and target notes, notes on location of captured images from cameras as well as geocorrected overlays from SLAR and IR/UV. All information from the mission is saved and can be compiled in mission reports and sent via the satellite data link to a command center and/or to cooperating units.
