The Dongara Satellite Station in Australia

PrioraNet supported the Jules Verne ATV launch

When the launch of the Jules Verne ATV took place earlier this week, PrioraNet* actively support CNES by using the capacity at one of the PrioraNet ground stations - Dongara Satellite Station in Australia.

Dongara Station was part of a ground station network set-up to receive the AR5 Telemetry for the ATV Jules Verne Mission. The required support concerned mainly Space-to-Earth down-link activities during the two first visible orbits, such as ensuring acquisition, tracking and transfer of the telemetry parameters of the launcher in real time to CNES/CSG (Kourou, French Guiana).

- The support from PrioraNet and the Dongara Satellite Station in Australia was performed perfectly, just as planned, says Mr. Arnaud Carlier, Head of Acquisition Mesures Department, CNES/CSG in Kourou, French Guiana. This was of great importance as we needed to follow Ariane 5 during the third boost of the upper stage in order to confirm the status of the launcher and the nominal trajectory in real time from this geographic area.

*PrioraNet PrioraNet is a global commercial network of strategically located ground stations that is frequently contracted during the launch phase of satellites and for routine support during the satellites life time. The network is jointly operated by the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) and the American company Universal Space Network (USN). PrioraNet includes the companies own stations as well as stations owned by affiliate partners. The network is controlled and monitored by Network Management Centers (NMC) in the US and in Sweden, providing customers with a single point of access into the global network. These NMCs are available to the customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. PrioraNet has become the largest commercial network for ground station services in the world and a leader for satellite communication support.

Jules Vernes ATV Jules Vernes ATV is Europes first spacecraft designed to conduct automated docking at the International Space Station (ISS). It was launched yesterday morning and one could read on the ESA web site: "An absolutely perfect launch brought Jules Verne ATV into orbit after a textbook countdown and mission of the Ariane 5 launcher".
