As the days become longer and London gets ready for spring, there are many evening concerts to look forward to in March.

The Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields, conducted by Andrew Earis, will present a celebration of music by the ‘English Orpheus’ Henry Purcell and England’s greatest twentieth century composer, Benjamin Britten, on Monday 7 March at 6.30pm. Now in its second year, the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition semi-finals and final will all be taking place during March, providing the chance to see some fantastically talented and up-and-coming chamber ensembles. The semi-finals will take place on Monday 7 March, Tuesday 8 March and Friday 11 March, 1.00pm with six ensembles selected from a preliminary round performing for twenty minutes each over the three free lunchtime concerts. The final on Tuesday 29 March, 7.30pm will include the best three ensembles performing for a distinguished panel of judges including Simon Standage and David Lee. Winners of this prestigious prize will be announced at the end of this evening. On Thursday 17 March, 7.30pm the St Patrick’s Singers and the Locrian Ensemble will join forces for a fun, magical and very Irish celebration for St Patrick’s Day. Featuring fiddler Dermot Crehan and Irish harpist Jean Kelly, the programme includes a performance of Julie Cooper’s Cariad along with traditional Irish folk and classical music. This promises to be a highly enjoyable and patriotic evening. Rounding off the month, the Bach Cello Suites by Candlelight will take place on Saturday 26 March, 10pm performed by Sebastian Comberti. For the exceptional price of £19, you can enjoy an hour long concert and a glass of wine from the Café in the Crypt beforehand. Concerts take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday and some Tuesdays throughout the year.
