A public hit, exciting match racing and popular activities when Stena sums up Stena Match Cup Sweden 2015

For the sixth consecutive year, Stena was the title sponsor for the sailing event Stena Match Cup Sweden, which took place off Marstrand outside Gothenburg. Stena invested more than ever in different activities, including a ferry in Stena colours, match racing in 3D and designer products made from recycled materials.

Stena Match Cup Sweden is the largest sailing event in Sweden and this year, public interest was enormous with large crowds watching the races. Björn Hansen won for the fourth time when he defeated Ian Williams in the final. With this victory, he made history as the only person to win Stena Match Cup Sweden four times in a row.

During the week of the competition on Marstrand, the Stena Sphere participated with a number of different activities. The first sight to meet visitors was the local ferry Lasse-Maja dressed in Stena’s colours and renamed Stena Marstrandica in honour of the occasion. On Stena Recycling’s stand, the focus was on recycling with several examples of designer products given new life thanks to recycled materials. New for this year was the much talked about 3D headset Oculus Rift on the Stena Sphere’s stand. With a virtual reality headset, visitors were able to experience an action-filled adventure on board a match racing boat.

During the week, Stena also held a large number of events and seminars for both customers and partners and Stena Fastigheter took the opportunity to invite 600 of its tenants to Marstrand to watch the races. A popular feature during the week was the Childhood Race, a special competition where a large number of artists, sports profiles and other celebrities participated for the benefit of Childhood.

“This year’s sailing week has been a great success at every level. Apart from being able to offer unusually exciting world-class match racing, it has been a fantastically festive occasion. The warm and sunny weather meant that more visitors than usual came to Marstrand, but we’re also very happy that so many of our customers and employees could take part”, says Lena Alvling, General Manager Marketing & Corporate Events, Stena Bulk AB.
