We are convinced that the tanker industry will change drastically in the future. To prepare for this we have a team of people working fulltime to make sure that we are fully aware of what is happening in the world, how it will affect us, and lead the company in a transformative way. One important aspect of this is the transformative power of digitalization. We need to stay up to date on different technologies and how to use them
Erik Hånell, President and CEO Stena Bulk
We think, however, that Blockchain will affect us and that it has the potential to revolutionise the tanker industry in terms of making the business process safer and more efficient. We will definitely not stand still just waiting for that to happen
Erik Hånell, President and CEO Stena Bulk
Naming the Stena Imagination in Dubai is very much a strategic choice. Stena Bulk recently opened an office here together with Stena Weco and Golden Stena Weco. We already had a presence in the market in the region but wanted to get even closer to our customers. The naming ceremony gives us the opportunity to further reinforce our image and forge more contacts with customers, partners and suppliers in the region
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk and CEO of Stena Weco
As both owner and operator, Stena Bulk is exposed to all areas of tanker shipping and thus has a twofold responsibility to be at the forefront of developments. We have long focused on technical development and have created solutions both on board and ashore that have raised awareness. But it has also been important to not only focus on technology for reducing bunker consumption but also to work with a commercial focus on using fuel more efficiently. Since it was implemented in 2012, our Energy Management system has increased our fuel efficiency by 20%; this is equivalent to 30,000 mt of fuel and savings of 100,000 mt as regards CO2 emissions. In recent years, our leading role when it comes to digital technology has taken us even further and we are currently working with tools that will enable us to predict the market in different ways. With new platforms, we are now transforming shipping as regards efficiency and transparency
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
We are very proud of this award and we thank everybody who voted for us and for recognising our work in this important area
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
After six very successful years and operational collaboration, the two companies’ ambitions for the future have changed. With the agreement now reached, which means that Stena Weco will be 100% owned by Stena Bulk, this situation has now been solved in a way that benefits both parties
    Erik Hånell
We are proud to have been part of the successful Stena Weco journey and very pleased that we have been able to reach the perfect solution for both partners in Stena Weco, also for the future
    Johan Wedell-Wedellsborg
Almost exactly two years have passed since the delivery of our first IMOIIMAX tanker and the vessels are continuing to perform beyond our expectations. The concept has set a new standard for both cargo efficiency and bunkers consumption. With number nine of the13 vessels on order soon out on the market, this tanker will be yet another addition to our high-quality fleet. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the shipyard GSI for fantastic collaboration during both the technological development and construction
Erik Hånell, President & CEO, Stena Bulk
Generally speaking, Dubai is an important meeting place for the oil industry as well as being situated strategically close to Iran, which is now beginning to open up to increased trade. Stena’s tanker business already has a presence in the area with contacts in the neighbouring region. The office will make even closer contacts possible with customers, partners and suppliers. In addition, many shipping companies are already active in the area
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk and CEO of Stena Weco
I'd just like to say that I was lucky to be passing, in the right place and time, and I only did what anyone in my position would have done
    John L Burton, captain
When we first saw the ship lights at night and heard the captain´s voice on the radio, we felt relieved. Then, this giant ship came towards us. We were really impressed by its size next to our little sailing boat. All we could see was the giant dragon face painted on the side becoming bigger and bigger. That was really scary. Thanks to the captain´s perfect maneuverer, we were able to come on board “sain et sauf” The crew was welcoming and worry about our well-being. We were exhausted so they brought us to a cabin, covered us with food and drinks. We finally slept an entire night, the first time in a long time!
Pablo and Marion, the rescued couple
When an event like Tall Ships Regatta, connected to the ocean, comes to our home town it´s a privilege to be involved and support it. One of the organizers main purposes is to develop and educate young people through the sail experience and maybe some of these young sailors one day even might end up working for us on board the Stena vessels somewhere around the world
Erik Hånell, President & CEO Stena Bulk and Carl-Johan Hagman, Head of Shipping and Ferries at Stena and CEO for Stena
Now, already after a year in operation, it is clear that the IMOIIMAX tankers have met our expectation in every way. The technical design is, of course, extremely important, but the fact that the vessels are operated successfully in the Stena Weco-system with its well-functioning logistics is the real key to success
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
From the beginning, we had great expectations when it came to function and results since IMOIIMAX is a further development of an established and successful concept. Now, after a year in operation, it is clear that the vessels have met all our expectations in terms of both technical and commercial performance
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
We are very satisfied with the performance of the IMOIIMAX tankers and are thus adding to this part of our fleet still further. With their greater efficiency as regards fuel consumption and cargo, these vessels are also environmentally superior compared to many other vessels in their class, which, of course, is a major advantage. Commercially, they are a good complement to our fleet
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
We are very pleased with the performance of the IMOIIMAX tankers delivered so far. They have already fulfilled all our expectations. The configuration of several small tanks provides for considerable flexibility in regards of cargo combination, something that fits very well within our existing global logistical systems. Additionally, innovative technical solutions have, for example, resulted in lower fuel consumption and have also proved to be very effective in conjunction with discharging and tank cleaning
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
This year’s sailing week has been a great success at every level. Apart from being able to offer unusually exciting world-class match racing, it has been a fantastically festive occasion. The warm and sunny weather meant that more visitors than usual came to Marstrand, but we’re also very happy that so many of our customers and employees could take part
Lena Alvling, General Manager Marketing & Corporate Events, Stena Bulk AB
During the week, Stena invested more than ever before in different activities, seminars and exposure on our stands, all of which was very much appreciated. We also had more than 1,500 guests in the form of customers, partners and other important stakeholders at our many seminars
Lovisa Andersson, Marketing & Branding, Stena Metall AB
One of our goals is to expand the pool to about 30 Suezmax tankers. We expect to achieve this with the help of partners and chartering in vessels, but we are also looking at purchasing. However, we are waiting to see how the market develops and are continuously evaluating which alternative is the most suitable
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
The pool set-up has numerous advantages, such as getting access to a larger market position and, in general, the ability to spread the risks arising as a result of fluctuations in a volatile market. Access to our global network with support and a high utilisation rate as a result of our operational excellence are also important factors”, says Erik Hånell. “We have been extremely successful and are one of the foremost, compared to both the index and other competing pools. Our pool has been the best performing Suezmax pool for 9 of 10 years, which is largely a result of our customer focus where innovation, performance and quality are a priority
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
In recent years, we have expanded with the addition of a number of in-house designed Suezmax tankers of the latest design and with the highest environmental class. In our strategic investments, we focus very much on energy efficiency and, with the help of our technical development department, we make sure that we are at the cutting edge when it comes to both safety and the environment. But we are also evaluating our existing vessels in order to find solutions for further fuel savings
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
We are pleased with the charter signed with the North West Shelf Project, which we view as a key strategic partner within a market with tremendous growth prospects. As always, we take the long-term view and are looking forward to developing the potential we see here
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
Since 2011, we have very quickly become established in the transportation of liquid natural gas and we have developed a good reputation in the market where quality and safety are paramount. We regard the LNG segment as a continuing and long-term investment where, additionally, our successful technical management plays a prominent role
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
The IMOIIMAX tankers will be a significant addition to our successful collaboration with Golden Agri. At the same time, it is a further step in the development of our existing sophisticated trading system
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk
Flexibility and energy savings are key characteristics of the IMOIIMAX concept. The configuration of several small tanks provides for considerable freedom of choice as regards cargo combination, something that fits in very well with our existing global logistics system. The fact that the concept, with its many innovative technical solutions, will result in energy savings is naturally a major advantage
Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk

Stena Bulk is delighted to become a member of the World Ocean Council. Sustainable business practices and sustainable seas require a global strategy. This international industrial platform allows us and other responsible members of the maritime trade to partner with like-minded companies from other sectors. Working as one, we are better equipped to handle the sustainability challenges facing current and future generations of our business
In today’s market, it is very important that we shipowners utilise our existing fleet in the best possible way from an energy and environmental perspective and carefully investigate the potential for improvement, both technological and operational
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk

Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
The vessels’ technical design is a key factor, but how vessels are operated in terms of energy management is just as important. When it comes to the design and operational excellence of its latest vessels, Stena Bulk has been successful in both these areas
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
The development of the Maritime Training Centre has been a natural step for Stena Bulk in our close relation with Sonangol where education has been one of the fundamental questions since we started our Joint Venture through Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool
    Erik Hånell, CEO Stena Bulk
The investment in the project by Sonangol and Stena will ensure the long term success of the project, and will also bring added value by employing people from the surrounding area, and therefore contribute to the local economy and infrastructure to the benefit of the life condition of the local community
    Erik Hånell, CEO Stena Bulk
With the new investment in this segment, we are entering a new chapter in our collaboration with Golden Agri-Resources. These tankers will transport chemicals and vegetable oils on an international basis
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk and President of Stena Weco.
Golden Stena Weco, with its head office in Singapore, is now responsible for the commercial operation of eight jointly owned chemical tankers as well as a number of time-chartered vessels. This investment is yet another step in building up our joint venture. We see this as part of the strategy of capturing market shares in Asia in particular with the long-term aim of establishing a presence, via our close partners, in new areas in this segment with the possibility of developing on other continents
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk and President of Stena Weco.
For the last three years, we, that is Stena Bulk/Stena LNG together with Northern Marine Management, which has been responsible for the technical management, have built up a very good name in the LNG segment – an industry segment undergoing expansive development and one that we judge will be very interesting indeed in the next few years
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
The three existing tankers will form the basis of future projects. We are active and keep a sharp eye on all relevant projects in the market and we see what opportunities there are for investing and finding suitable industrial partners in the segment
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
This means that we have now almost completed the ice-covered part of our adventure. But rest assured that the adventure continues! Firstly we have to cross the Bering Strait and the Bering Sea which could invite our good vessel to dance over the big waves. Me and the Captain are both fans of the TV show Deadliest Catch which is a show about fishermen on the Bering Sea. For every episode the weather conditions gets worse and worse and the small fishing boats bob up and down on the waves that could be metres high. So just because we have passed the Northern Sea Route with all its challenges does not mean that we can sit back and relax for the remainder of our journey. Now we are ready to face some hard weather conditions or as Captain Stipanovic puts it – now it’s time for rock n’ roll!
Patrik Svahn, Manager Commercial Operations in Stena Bulk
The voyage with the Stena Polaris is the first project where we are transferring technology and operational know-how from Stena to Hyundai Glovis. At the same time, it is the beginning of important collaboration. Stena’s objective is to expand in Asia together with good partners
Carl-Johan Hagman, CEO of Stena Shipping, Drilling and Ferries
We are, of course, in favour of more explicit requirements in order to ensure safer shipping in the region. Stena has always been at the cutting edge of developments in safety as we are in this case since we are already well equipped and are operating at a level over and above the guidelines currently in force. Nevertheless, we are continuing to develop our operations with further improvements based on our own experience and collaboration with other players
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk AB
As always, Saturday is drill day and today was no exception. On the menu was a safety drill with helicopter launching, an abandon ship drill and again a fire drill but this time it was time for fire in the paint store. At 15:30 the alarm sounded and all crew and passengers went the to their respective muster station. We started off with the helicopter launch drill which today consisted of the 3rd Officer verbally going through the different scenarios where helicopter launching could be necessary such as during a medical emergency, so called helivac, and what to think of if this would come into reality. Past experiences were shared and those who had questions had the opportunity to ask them. Before we were finished with this drill the 3rd Officer advised that after the remaining drills we will all meet inside in the ships office where we will watch an educational movie about helicopter launching
Patrik Svahn, Manager Commercial Operations in Stena Bulk
This will be one of the greatest adventures in my life and I have very high expectation with regard to what we will see and experience. I’ll also be getting a lot of useful experience, which we will be able to make use of in our continuous development work
Patrik Svahn, Manager Commercial Operations, Stena Bulk Operations
One of the objectives of this special voyage through the North-East Passage is to transfer operational and technical experience from Stena to Hyundai Glovis. Accordingly, the focus is mainly on the experience we have gathered during all the years we have been operating in the icy conditions in the North-East Passage
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
We see the voyage with the Stena Polaris as the beginning of a long and far-reaching collaboration with Hyundai Glovis where we together will invest in different types of transportation of which voyages via the North East Passage are one part
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
Like many others, we feel that there could be a commercial break-through in the near future, although there are still a number of challenges to be overcome before this can take place on a large scale
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
We have always been at the cutting edge when it comes to technological developments, but now we have also succeeded in achieving operational excellence, which is having a major impact. We are delighted to see that our ambitious project for increasing energy efficiency, where we are working with a specific energy budget for each vessel and voyage, has had immediate and very positive results
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
This deal is a continuation of our strategic collaboration with Golden Agri-Resources. We look forward to further investments within the framework of our joint venture in the future
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
In addition to very good fuel efficiency, the tankers will be extremely flexible and will be ably to transport a large number of different types of cargo. This is a logical development of our fleet and a way of being able to satisfy new demands together with tougher competition
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
Like Stena Teknik, we are very satisfied with the collaboration with the Samsung shipyard, which has characterised both the development and production of this tanker series. Besides the generally good quality delivered by the shipyard, we have together achieved our fuel efficiency target, which was the single most important objective
Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk
Golden Stena Bulk can be seen as the second step in our collaboration with leading palm oil plantation company, GAR. For us, it’s also a gateway to Asia
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
Such strategic partnerships are a well-tried concept for us and involve coordinating complementary assets, know-how and experience. With GAR’s robust network and intimate knowledge of the region, this strategic partnership gives us greater access to the Southeast Asian market as well as to local competence
Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk
