New CEO at Stena Bulk
In conjunction with his 60th birthday, Ulf G. Ryder will hand over the rudder as the President and CEO of Stena Bulk, which he started up in 1982. The new president will be Erik Hånell, currently Executive Vice President of the group and MD of the subsidiary Stena Weco. Erik Hånell will take over as President & CEO of Stena Bulk World Wide on 1 December 2012.
“After 30 years as President & CEO of Stena Bulk, it is time to hand over to my successor to continue to develop the group’s activities. In future, I will have an advisory role in the Stena Sphere and sit on the boards of Stena Bulk and other Stena companies”, says Ulf Ryder, outgoing President & CEO of Stena Bulk.

My goal is to take a very committed and goal-oriented organisation together with a fleet of 100 tankers to new heights”, says Erik Hånell, incoming President & CEO of Stena Bulk.
Ulf Ryder was employed in the Stena Group in 1982 to build up a Bulk & Tank Division and he has been the driving force behind all Stena Bulk’s milestones. These include the establishment and listing on the stock exchange of Concordia Maritime, the purchase of the whole D.K. Ludwig VLCC fleet and the ULCCs Stena King and Stena Queen as well as several strategic alliances, one of which was with Texaco.
At the end of the 1990s, Ulf Ryder initiated Stena Bulk’s in-house developed Stena MAX concept and in the 2000s, he has continued to focus on innovative alliances and mergers such as the Stena Sonangol Suezmax pool (2005), Stena Weco (2010) and the investment in LNG tankers (2011).
Ulf G. Ryder was also recently appointed as the Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Sweden. The Consulate will be established in the Stena HQ at Danmarksterminalen, Gothenburg.
Erik Hånell has worked in the Stena Group for 13 years. For ten of these, he was stationed in Houston and since 2010 he had been responsible for Stena Bulk’s business activities in the US and Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool. Since spring 2012, Erik has been Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Stena Bulk as well as MD of the subsidiary Stena Weco where he played a key role when it was established in 2011.
