Presque Isle Partnership Lands Crosby, Stills and Nash for Summer Concert Slated to Help Modernization of Perry Monument Area.
Erie, PA- Crosby, Stills and Nash haven’t been to Erie for over 20 years, but they will be returning on June 23rd to help The Presque Isle Partnership and its plan to significantly upgrade the Perry Monument Area.
“We are calling our concert ‘Best Summer Night. . . An Evening with Crosby, Stills and Nash,’” said Steve McDermott, Executive Director of The Presque Isle Partnership (PIP). “The Best Summer Night will allow 4,000 people to enjoy great music on the beach at Presque Isle. It will not only be offered to the Erie community, but also to the tri-state area.”
“It is truly a one of a kind event that has never been done before,” said Perry Wood Executive Director-Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority, a major sponsor for the event.
Crosby, Stills and Nash are an iconic band not only for the generation that grew up with them, but for so many after. By bringing them to Presque Isle State Park, PIP is offering the Erie community an event like no other. From one generation to another, we can share in the love of music and the outdoors at this event.
“Even more important than the concert is the good that the event will do to support an important initiative for Presque Isle,” McDermott added. “We have needed to modernize the Perry Monument Area for years.”
In less than 17 months, this community will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie in 2013. The focal point of the celebration will occur in and around Perry Monument. This monument recognizes Oliver Hazard Perry and the brave sailors who participated in this historical maritime battle in 1813. This area is of particular importance because it overlooks the bay where Commodore Perry built his fleet to challenge the British Navy.
“To help salute the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813—UPMC and UPMC Hamot has decided to present a unique and exciting way to provide the Presque Isle Partnership the opportunity and the dollars needed to underwrite these improvements in time for historically significant community-wide events planned in 2013,” said Sean Logan, Vice President of Community Relations, UPMC, another major sponsor of the concert.
The Presque Isle Partnership is a ‘Friends of Presque Isle State Park’ non-profit organization. Established in 1994, its mission is to enhance the experience to people who journey to Presque Isle throughout all four seasons. They accomplish this mission by creating and executing fundraising activities, the beneficiary of which is Presque Isle State Park and the people who come to enjoy its environs.
The Platinum Level Sponsors for the event are Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority, Erie Regional Chamber & Growth Partnership, LECOM, Perry 200 Committee, UPMC, UPMC Health Plan. The Gold Level Sponsors are Armanini-Kolodychak Oral Surgery, Erie Beer, Erie Community Foundation, Erie Insurance PD, Eriez Magnetics, HBKS Wealth Advisors.
