Svenska Aerogel in strategic research collaborations

Report this content

Svenska Aerogel - listed on Nasdaq First North - has entered into two strategic cooperation agreements in the filtering business area. One is a research group at three of Britain's leading universities funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The other is within the Swedish research program Mistra TerraClean, which includes several Swedish universities and research institutes. In both collaborations, Svenska Aerogel participates with expertise and the material, Quartzene, to develop improved filtering solutions.

As previously announced by Svenska Aerogel, the company is planning to launch commercial solutions in the Filtration business area by 2018. The applications for the two research collaborations will first be about so-called molecular filtration, especially for air purification.

“Cooperations with leading researchers in the field of chemistry and nanotechnology gives us significant opportunities to continue to strengthen our own knowledge. This knowledge can directly connect to the development of commercial products with Quartzene" says Anders Lundström, CEO Svenska Aerogel, and continues:

“We expect a significant demand for our air filtration solutions, which annually accounts for just over SEK 60 billion. This kind of partnership has a direct link to expand our product portfolio with additional filter products and filter technologies. Part of the development here is about developing environmentally adapted solutions. "

The leading British universities are the University of Sheffield, the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) and the University of Edinburgh.

The Mistra TerraClean consortium consists of several universities and research institutes. Some of these are KTH, Uppsala University, Swetox, IVL Swedish Environment Institute, Innventia AB, Acreo Swedish ICT AB and the umbrella organization for Swedish nanotechnology actors SwedNanoTech. The program started in October 2017 and will be conducted from KTH for four years.
