Air Serbia to expand its air transport network with a direct route from Göteborg Landvetter to Belgrade
The Serbian carrier Air Serbia is expanding its air transport network in Europe and launching non-stop service from Göteborg Landvetter in time for summer. In mid-May, it will resume service to the Serbian capital, which it last served in 2013.
Serbia’s national airline, Air Serbia, is expanding its transport network from its hub in Belgrade and introducing four new European destinations in time for summer, one of them being Gothenburg. Non-stop service between Göteborg Landvetter and the Serbian capital will begin in May 2023, with three flights a week using an Airbus A319.
Belgrade, located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers, is Serbia’s capital and its largest city. West Sweden has a large share of residents who have roots in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. Before the pandemic, nearly 25,000 passengers flew annually between Gothenburg and Belgrade, the majority of whom were leisure travellers who flew to visit family and friends.
Air Serbia flew between Gothenburg and Belgrade for a number of years until 2013. It will be the second operator on this route, with the relaunched service being a complement to existing traffic.
“There is great faith in the Swedish aviation market, and Air Serbia’s growth at Göteborg Landvetter in time for the summer season is another sign of this. We are pleased about the investment that Air Serbia is making in the region, and it is gratifying that we will have enhanced connectivity to the Balkans and Serbia. Belgrade is a destination for which there is great demand, and the new route will be a welcome addition to our existing range of travel options,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia.
Starting May 18, 2023, Air Serbia will serve the Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT) – Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) route three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. Swedavia’s work for net zero aviation
Swedavia has carried out ambitious climate work for many years. All ten of its airports achieved the goal of zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions from their own operations by year-end 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the switch to sustainable aviation fuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used for refuelling at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025. Swedavia’s climate transition work and pioneering work to operate climate-smart airports have won international awards, and in 2021 the trade organisation Airports Council International (ACI) named Stockholm Arlanda Airport Eco-Innovation Airport of the Year. Swedavia offers all travellers flying from one of its airports the option of buying biofuel for their entire journey or parts of it via flygreenfund.se/swedavia.
