easyJet is expanding its operations and now launches a direct route between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and the French city of Lyon. With this addition, the British low cost carrier will now fly to two destinations from Stockholm, along with its existing route to Geneva. In the Summer of 2017, easyJet will also start flying non-stop between Stockholm and Milan.

“easyJet is one of the largest and fastest growing airlines in Europe so we are really pleased that they continue to invest in Stockholm. We have had a very strong passenger growth at Stockholm Arlanda, and this new direct route is a clear indication that easyJet sees the potential of the Swedish market. There is also great demand for non-stop service to Lyon among Swedish business and leisure travellers, especially for the coming ski season,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia.

Lyon offers easy access to the Alps and popular resorts such as La Plagne, Les 2 Alpes and L’Alpe d’Huez. But the city is perhaps best known as the food mecca of France and is also renowned for hosting the Bocuse d’Or, the world’s most prestigious cooking competition.

“It’s great to be able to celebrate our new route from Stockholm Arlanda to Lyon today. It’s a fantastic addition for our customers on both sides of the route. Spread across 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, the Swedish Capital will be a particular draw for tourists looking to experience its dynamic culture and all that its Baltic sea setting has to offer. Lyon is perfect for those looking to hit the slopes in the French Alps or taking a city break. We’re sure that our new route will be very popular", says Neil Slaven, easyJet’s UK commercial Manager.

The Stockholm–Lyon route will be operated twice a week, on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
