Air travel at Swedavia's ten airports continued to increase in the month of July. In July, more than 3.2 million passengers flew via one of Swedavia's ten airports. This is a 1 percent increase compared to July last year. At Stockholm Arlanda, passenger levels for international traffic have essentially returned to pre-pandemic levels. In July, international travel at Stockholm Arlanda increased by 8 percent and increased by 9 percent at Landvetter. International travel increased by 6 percent overall, while domestic travel showed a weaker trend, decreasing by 21 percent at Swedavia's airports.

"Despite the recession and other uncertainties in our operating environment, demand for international travel at our airports remains strong. At Stockholm Arlanda, the number of international passengers increased by 8 percent compared to last year, which means that international travel at the airport has now essentially returned to pre-pandemic levels. Domestic travel continued to decline in July, partly due to lower demand”, says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.

Both Bromma Stockholm Airport and Kiruna Airport were temporarily closed for a couple of weeks in July due to planned runway work, which also had a negative impact on domestic travel.

During July, Japan's largest airline, ANA, announced that it will begin operations at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with a direct route to Tokyo Haneda, Japan's largest airport, starting on 31 January 2025. The addition of ANA will create an important link between the Swedish capital and one of the most important markets in Asia.

During the summer travel season, airlines operating at Swedavia's airports invested heavily in strengthening Sweden’s connectivity. During this year's summer traffic programme, 25 new routes were launched, of which 17 are new routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and 8 new routes from Göteborg Landvetter Airport. Investments have also been made in charter flights from Malmö Airport, Åre Östersund Airport, Umeå Airport and Luleå Airport.
