Swedavia’s traffic statistics for June 2024: The trend of strong international travel continues – driven by airlines' investments in a broader international offering via Sweden's largest airports

During June, more than 3.1 million passengers flew via one of Swedavia's ten airports. Air travel in June is overall at comparable levels with June 2023. International travel rose 6 per cent during the month, while domestic travel decreased 20 per cent compared to June last year. The airlines' investments in a strong range of destinations for international travel via Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport continue to drive the development. At Landvetter, international travel increased by 11 per cent in June, while international traffic increased by 7 per cent at Arlanda.

"Airlines continue to add more traffic to our airports, especially to destinations in other countries in Europe. The market is responding strongly to these investments despite a weak economy and other uncertainties in the world around us. At Göteborg Landvetter, for example, the increase wasinternational traffic in June by 11 per cent compared with the year before” says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.

The airlines at Swedavia's ten airports are investing in strengthening accessibility to Sweden. This year's summer traffic program includes 25 new routes, of which 17 are new routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and 8 new routes from Göteborg Landvetter Airport. In addition, there are investments in charter flights from Malmö Airport, Umeå Airport, Luleå Airport and Åre Östersund Airport.

During June, more than 3.1 million passengers flew via one of Swedavia's ten airports. The result in June is at the same level as travel in June last year. International travel increased 6 percent to over 2.5 million passengers, while domestic travel decreased 20 per cent to just under 618,000 passengers. Total passenger traffic at Swedavia's airports in June was about 82 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport served more than 2.2 million passengers in June, which is a 3 per cent increase compared to June of 2023. International travel increased 7 per cent to 2 million passengers, while domestic travel increased 24 per cent to just under 250,000 passengers. Overall, passenger levels at Stockholm Arlanda in June were 89 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.

Göteborg Landvetter Airport had a total of just over 536,000 passengers in June, which is an increase of just over 5 percent compared to June 2023. International travel increased by 11 per cent to 493,000 passengers, while domestic travel decreased 33 per cent to 42,259 passengers. In June, passenger levels at Göteborg Landvetter were 82 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. 

The air travel trend at Swedavia’s other airports was mixed in June. Kiruna Airport, followed by Visby Airport, had the best passenger development in June compared to June last year. In June, Kiruna Airport, followed by Luleå Airport, had the best trend compared to pre-pandemic numbers in 2019. Malmö Airport, followed by Bromma Stockholm Airport, had the weakest development in June compared to June last year.
