Annual Lapathon race in Costa Rica raises money for community

Lapa Rios Rainforest Ecolodge, a luxury and Earth-friendly eco resort located on Costa Rica’s stunning Osa Peninsula, is now accepting registrants for this year’s Lapathon Jungle Run – an annual half-marathon organized by the Costa Rica hotel that sees to funds being raised for community development in Puerto Jiménez.

Runners needing a place to stay during this year’s Lapathon can take advantage of the Costa Rica luxury hotel runner’s package – highlights include three nights for the price of two; accommodation in a private rainforest bungalow (double occupancy); three gourmet meals per day with unlimited beverages (non-alcoholic); round-trip transfers between Puerto Jiménez and Lapa Rios; and guided tours of the Costa Rica ecolodge’s nature reserve.

“The Lapathon is really like no other,” said Hans Pfister, CEO and principle of Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality, the company behind the Osa hotel. “Instead of pounding the city pavement, you’re trekking on a dirt road next to dense rainforest and the wild Pacific Ocean while getting cheered on by monkeys, tropical birds and other jungle creatures.”

The cost to register in the Lapathon Jungle Run is $20 per participant. Winners (first to finish and most pledges earned) will collect room nights and meals at Cayuga properties, tickets on domestic airlines and local nature tour experiences.

Created in the ’90s under the philosophy that “a rainforest left standing was worth more than cut down,” Lapa Rios, a unique Costa Rica sustainable hotel, is set on a private nature reserve, spread over 1,000-acres of Central America's last remaining lowland tropical rainforest. Over the years, Lapa Rios has been recognized for its sustainable ways by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, TripAdvisor, National Geographic and many more.
