Taylor & Francis Group and the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE) are pleased to announce the publication of a new special issue from the Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness (JREE) entitled Predicting Children’s Reading Comprehension Development: Findings from the Reading for Understanding Network.  The four articles in this special issue represent an important step on the path to increasing our knowledge of how to teach children to read for understanding.

The editors of this special issue, Vaughn, Lonigan, and Connor, who are members of the Reading for Understanding Network note, “The Reading for Understanding Network, funded by the US Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, brought together a multidisciplinary group of researchers and educational practitioners, resulting in expanded theories of reading comprehension that can inform effective instructional practices.”  Many other studies from the Reading for Understanding Network are at various stages in the publication pipeline. They also represent advancement of knowledge regarding reading comprehension and associated processes. These studies and the studies reported in this special issue demonstrate how interdisciplinary networks, supported by sufficient funding, can accelerate the creation of knowledge and the dissemination of this knowledge.
