Announcing the New Editors of Leisure Sciences
Routledge is pleased to announce Corey W. Johnson and Diana C. Parry as the incoming editors of Leisure Sciences beginning in 2016.
Dr. Corey W. Johnson is a Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo. He teaches courses on inclusive recreation, social justice, gender and sexuality, qualitative research methods, and the philosophy of science. His theorizing and qualitative inquiry focuses its attention on the power relations between dominant (white, male, heterosexual, etc.) and non-dominant populations in the cultural contexts of leisure. This examination provides important insight into both the privileging and discriminatory practices that occur in contemporary leisure settings.
Dr. Diana C. Parry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, at the University of Waterloo. Utilizing a feminist lens, her research privileges women's standpoints and aims to create social change and enact social justice by challenging the medical model of scholarship. In particular, Diana’s research explores the personal and political links between women's leisure and women's health, broadly defined. Diana serves as Special Advisor to the President of the University of Waterloo on Women’s and Gender Issues.
Both Johnson and Parry say, “Our mission for the journal is to maintain and increase its high regard as the premiere publication outlet for sophisticated examinations and debates of leisure, broadly defined. To achieve this end, we hope to celebrate the interdisciplinary and diverse nature surrounding the complexity of leisure inquiry, market the journal as both an important resource and publication outlet, retain and recruit the best and brightest associate editors and reviewers, ensure the theoretical and methodological integrity of the manuscripts published, and strive to offer frequent special issues that keep the field abreast of the most current trends in research, methodology and policy. We look forward to this opportunity to continue to shape the quality and direction of leisure scholarship.”

About Leisure Sciences
Leisure Sciences presents scientific inquiries into the study of leisure behavior and the contexts in which it is manifested (e.g., recreation, parks, travel, and tourism) from a social science perspective. Published articles theoretically and/or methodologically advance the understanding of leisure behavior. Leisure contexts include recreation, sport, parks, travel, and tourism.
The journal also features methodological notes and philosophical and policy treatises. The interdisciplinary diversity of topics makes this international forum for leisure research of special interest to academicians, consultants, students, bureaucrats, and practitioners involved in research, teaching, planning, management, administration, and promotion.
© 2015 Thomson Reuters, 2015 Journal Citations Report ® ranks Leisure Sciences 18th out of 43 in the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism and 44th out of 142 in the Sociology categories, with an Impact Factor of 1.177.
