Oxford, March, 2013

Highly regarded Bellwether Publishing journals Urban Geography, Eurasian Geography and Economics, GIScience & Remote Sensing, Physical Geography and Post-Soviet Affairs will be published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis with immediate effect.

Addition of the journals confirms Routledge/Taylor & Francis’ position as the pre-eminent Geography journal publisher. They join a flourishing programme containing Annals of the Association of American Geographers, The Professional Geographer, Journal of Geography, Social and Cultural Geography, Regional Studies, Gender, Place & Culture, International Journal of Geographical Information Science, Australian Geographer, Journal of Maps, Atmosphere-Ocean, Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift, Landscape Research, International Journal of Remote Sensing and Cartography and Geographic Information Science.

The lifetime contribution to Geography of Bellwether Publishing and its founder in 1959 Victor H Winston was recognized with the prestigious AAG Publication Award in 2010. Bellwether Publishing are one of only six recipients of the Award since 1997. Routledge/Taylor & Francis received the AAG Publication Award in 2012.

Victor H Winston comments: ‘I am greatly encouraged by the new publishing home for Urban Geography, Eurasian Geography and Economics, GIScience & Remote Sensing, Physical Geography, and Post-Soviet Affairs, not only because a small house like Bellwether Publishing could no longer cope successfully with the massive change ushered in by such developments as Open Access and the proliferation of consortia, but primarily because these journals will now be accessible to many thousands of libraries and institutions throughout the world, prompting not only significant increases in their usage and impact but also enhanced inflows of innovative geographic research from such regions as China.’

David Green, Taylor & Francis’ Global Journals Publishing Director, adds: ‘We are delighted that such an eminent set of titles is joining Routledge.  Professor Winston built a prestigious and renowned publishing house in Bellwether, and we will ensure that its traditions of quality scholarship and publication to the highest standards will be maintained.’

Polar Geography and International Geology Review had already joined Routledge/Taylor & Francis from Bellwether Publishing, in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
