If you have concerns about your child's development, what should you do?

Don't wait.

Research has shown that parents have the power to help babies and toddlers at risk for developmental delays make important strides — and it's a lot easier than you might think. Simple activities incorporated into everyday routines (like nappy changes, bath time, and mealtimes) can have an enormous impact.

Still, many parents are scared, confused, and overwhelmed. The authors of The Activity Kit for Babies and Toddlers at Risk understand. Leading psychologists in their field, they have more than 100 years of combined experience treating children with autism spectrum disorders, global developmental delay, and developmental language disorder. "Because you are the most important person in your child's life, you have the ability to be your child's best teacher," they write.

In The Activity Kit, they present a wealth of easy games designed to build social and communication skills in children from birth to age 3. While simple clapping, pointing, and sound repetition routines may sound inconsequential, in fact they promote crucial abilities, such as how to imitate others or use simple hand gestures to convey wants and needs. "The games and activities we describe should be helpful and fun for children at risk for many kinds of developmental concerns, and even for children of typical development," they write.

All parents want to enhance and expand their child's learning. And for kids with suspected delays, it
is even more important. With this authoritative, approachable resource, parents can take active steps
– everyday – towards facilitating their child's development.
