Philadelphia – Routledge and the Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS) are pleased to announce the paper, "How Posture-Profile Misalignment in IT Innovation Diminishes Returns: Conceptual Development and Empirical Demonstration," by Robert G. Fichman and Nigel P. Melville received the Best Publication of the Year Award from the Association for Information Systems in December 2015. Since 2006, the Senior Scholars have annually recognized up to five papers with a Best Information Systems Publications Award. This award was established to recognize the breadth of high quality work that is being published in the Information Systems discipline, and was designed to bring outstanding papers across a range of journals to the attention of the Information Systems community, and to give due credit to the journals in which they are published.

Editor-in-Chief, Vladimir Zwass, says, “Successful use of information technology (IT) is an ever more potent source of innovation leading to competitive advantage in many industries. As companies vie to compete in the marketplace by deploying IT, often as a major component of their capital expenditure, this research sends them a word of warning, based on the analysis of a comprehensive dataset. To achieve the returns on innovation with IT, it is necessary to align the firm’s’ IT innovation posture with its stock of resources conducive to the effective deployment of IT. Firms with a generous endowment of human and technological resources should take the lead in the aggressive use of technology in competitive applications, while those with a more modest resource endowment should wait until the adoption barriers have been lowered and learn from the experience of the leaders. As the authors show and illustrate with examples, a proper alignment between the innovation posture and the resource endowment leads to an effective deployment of organizational resources and success in market competition.”
