Living roofs: How green construction can improve water sustainability

Report this content

Routledge introduces a revolutionary new book exploring the benefits of living roofs.

Living Roofs in Integrated Urban Water Systems is the first book to compile a range of research on storm water management and living roofs from the perspective of engineers and architects. With the infrastructure to manage storm water threats in cities becoming increasingly expensive to build or repair, the design community needs to look at alternative approaches. Living roofs present an opportunity to compliment ground-level storm water control measures, contributing to a holistic, integrated urban water management system. Authors Roehr and Fassman-Beck provide an evidence-based assessment of green roofs on urban drainage systems, analyzing the effectiveness of using a green roof strategy in different climate regions

This book equips the reader with the tools to plan and design living roofs, with the aim of effectively mitigating storm water. Complete with methods for engineering calculations, discussion of potential design influences and interactions, and assembly elements, this is a must read for those interested in sustainable architecture, green construction, and water management.
