The third annual TCS&D Awards promises to be the most competitive yet, with a waiting list already in place to attend the presentation ceremony later this year.

Winners of the popular awards will be announced at the Peterborough Arena on 16th September following the first day of the TCS&D Show, held in conjunction with the Food Storage & Distribution Federation (FSDF) and the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF).

The number of nominations received last year increased by 30 per cent, and organisers are hoping to see a similar rise in 2015 across the 17 award categories.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 1st July.

Chris Sturman, Chairman of the judging panel and Chief Executive of the FSDF, said: “In our niche industry there are an awful lot of excellent people working incredibly hard on a day-to-day basis, helping to feed the nation. It’s not a cushy sector, and it is not for the faint-hearted! That also means there are a lot of unsung heroes and these awards are the perfect opportunity to really recognise the hard work that goes on.

“Winning these awards gives real kudos. It really is so valuable for individuals and businesses to be recognised by their peers as being excellent at what they do.”

This year’s award categories are: Health & Safety (Transport/Warehousing), Refrigerated Panel Van of the Year, Coldstore Manager of the Year, Environmental and Sustainability, Refrigerated Rigid of the Year, OEM of the Year, Rental and Contract Hire Company of the Year, Livery of the Year, Innovation, Customer Service, Refrigerated Trailer of the Year, Refrigerated Fleet Manager of the Year, Refrigerated Courier of the Year, Coldstore Operator of the Year, Home Delivery Operator of the Year, Refrigerated Transport Operator of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.

This year also sees the introduction of a special Champion of Champions award, which judges will award to the category winner they believe stands out above all the rest.

Sturman explained: “For the personal award categories, we always look for someone who is a real star. The consummate professional who has achieved a great deal, delivered excellent performance and really enhanced the industry or their business.

“In terms of the product and corporate awards, we will be looking for innovation, as well as improved efficiency and performance. Last year we had an operator, a refrigeration company and a trailer company coming together on a single submission because the solution they had developed was real teamwork, and that was fantastic to see.”

Alongside Chris, the judging panel comprises: Les Gillies, Head of Logistics at Moy Park; Paul Jackson, Managing Director of Chiltern Cold Storage Group; Brodie McMillan, Logistics Director at Whitbread; Tim Moran, Logistics Director at Yearsley Group; Rob Swindells, former Sales and Marketing Director at Langdons; and Garry Tilburn, former President of the FSDF.

Sturman added: “We have two additional judges this year and the panel has a really good mix of experience from small and medium enterprises as well as big business, so there is someone who can relate to everyone. That’s why I would really encourage everyone to enter and ensure their hard work is recognised as it deserves to be.”

Sponsors of the TCS&D awards event, which will be hosted by comedian Hal Cruttenden, include BPW; Carbon Management Services; Chalcroft Construction; Coolertech; Euroscan Technology; FSDF; Gray & Adams; Griffiths & Armour; IMS; Montracon; Petit Forestier; Refrigerental by Enterprise Flex-E-Rent; Rossetts Rental Self Drive Hire; Seven Telematics; SPAL Automotive; Thermo King and VMS (Fleet Management).
