Just in time for the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2015 Tengbom architects present several exciting innovations in product design. 2015 news character, as before, innovation and holism, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Some of the news are; an office furniture system with a holistic approach to the office environment, where formal and informal environments are integrated, a series of accessory products for the workplace, and products for tomorrow’s school.

One of this year’s news is the product series Platform for SA Furniture. Platform is an innovative, platform-based furniture system where products; storage solutions, sideboards, sofas, desks, chairs, table surfaces, plant boxes, together create a total solution for offices. But even for public venues and home environments. The News Pi, Kappa and Lambda for Horreds and Sigma for Dalform are products that are part of a larger project where Tengbom designed furniture for tomorrow’s school under the name ”Alphabet City”. Another new feature is Metro for Ragnars, a flexible and dynamic office furniture system based on a beam construction. With a holistic approach to the office environment, formal and informal, Metro connects the different parts and integrate power and data supply.

- Platform follows the acclaimed A series that was released in 2011 and is based on the same philosophy, warm and tactile materials in combination with a focus on Swedish craftsmanship, durability and contemporary product design. In the new series, Metro, the beam is the backbone and to which the different parts connect. The beam also enables hidden electrical wiring to each workplace or meeting, says Daniel Lavonius Jarefeldt, Industrial Designer at Tengbom.
A long experience from designing offices is an example of how Tengbom can locate and address the gaps and needs in the market, creating width and thus be at the forefront of developing products for office environments. With a focus on materials and identity Tengboms goal is to create innovative, knowledge based solutions primarily for offices but also for home environment and public spaces.

- When we work with product design we do it on the basis that every project is unique. Our goal is to create products that meet a specific need and also answers to what the client or end user demand. At the same time, we want to be at the forefront with the products we design. A good example is the A-series for SA Möbler, which is basically an office furniture range but in its form also works equally well in restaurants, retail or home environment. The A-Series stools are, for an example, used in the Boqueria restaurant in Stockholm and soon also in Louis Vuitton stores, explains Daniel Lavonius Jarefeldt.

In order to follow the customer all the way in a project Tengbom architects house its own product design studio. The initiative is a way to offer complete services in the process of planning and all the way down to the level of detail on completion of the environment. The studio has been active since early 2014.
