Tengbom provides interior design concept for new restaurant Carousel in Stockholm
Carousel – a new restaurant in magnificent and vibrant premises on Gustav Adolfs torg in Stockholm – is yet another in a line of noteworthy restaurants where Tengbom architects is responsible for the interior design.
Restaurant Carousel, opened on 5 September, is located in prestigious premises at Gustav Adolfs torg 20, opposite the Royal Opera House in Stockholm, Sweden. The people behind the restaurant are restaurateurs Christopher Ellertsson and Lukas and Robin Moderato. Robin Moderato was previously a member of the trio behind restaurants Vassa Eggen and Boquería in Stockholm – which are also restaurants with interiors by Tengbom.
“We have created a pleasant and lively restaurant which connects with its historic environment while at the same time evoking a sense of new life, both in the premises and the area round Gustav Adolfs torg. The design work was carried out in close cooperation with the restaurateurs who have very much given the whole concept their personal touch. We have enjoyed an exciting process where we were able to work very efficiently and re-use many fixed and movable furnishings and fittings,” says Magnus Lindgren, interior architect at Tengbom.
Taking their inspiration from the historical character of the building, Tengbom’s interior architects have created a design concept that feels both classical and innovative. Details using new, old and robust materials create a wonderful atmosphere. Several existing features have been renewed, including an on-site designed carousel top taken from the previous restaurant’s round bar.
“We have worked with Tengbom on several other restaurant projects and it was a fantastic cooperation this time as well. We are extremely pleased with the results which will make Carousel a restaurant that is always lively,” says Robin Moderato, owner of Carousel.
Over the past few years, the interior design studio at Tengbom has created a number of strong restaurant concepts. In Stockholm, Torsgatan 21, Kommendören and Boqueria are a few recent examples, and in Malmö Tengbom is behind the interiors at newly opened Eatery Social Taquería and Kitchen & Table.
