In 2021, total production at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant of TVO amounted to 14.4 TWh (billion kilowatt hours) which satisfied about one sixth of the total electricity consumption in Finland. The combined load factor of plant units OL1 and OL2 was 92.8 percent.

Olkiluoto NPP produced climate-friend electricity for Finland the whole year 2021. Olkiluoto 1 (OL1) produced 7.4 TWH of electricity, and reached a load factor of 95.1 percent. The production volume of the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2) was 7.0 TWh and the load factor was 90.4%.

Both plant units underwent a conventional annual outage last spring which affected the electricity production volumes. Personnel together with network of partners brought the annual outages to a successful conclusion. In addition, during the year 2021 TVO prepared for the startup of the OL3 plant unit which took place in December.

The estimated time of connecting the OL3 plant unit to the national grid is at the end of January, and regular electricity production is to start in the summer of 2022. During the first half of the year, OL3 will produce electricity at varying power levels. With OL3 up and running, almost one third of the Finnish electricity will come from Olkiluoto in the future.

At the end of 2021, Posiva submitted the application for an operating licence for the encapsulation and final disposal facility of spent nuclear fuel.

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders, Finnish industrial and energy companies, safely and reliably for 40 years. Nuclear electricity generated at TVO's Olkiluoto plant covers approximately one sixth, increasing to nearly one third once Olkiluoto 3 is completed, of the electricity consumption in Finland. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production. Moreover, the world's first final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is under construction in Olkiluoto.
