Posiva is changing its President and CEO
Posiva Oy’s President and CEO Janne Mokka will be moving on towards new challenges during the summer of 2023. The search for a new President and CEO is under way, and future changes will be communicated at a later time. Posiva is the world’s leading provider of final disposal services that will start the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel in ONKALO®, excavated deep in bedrock, in the 2020s
Janne Mokka has been the President and CEO for Posiva since 2014. During this time, the company has moved from the R&D stage toward commissioning the final disposal system. Mr. Mokka has also been actively involved with Posiva’s subsidiary Posiva Solutions Oy (PSOY) that was established in 2016. PSOY focuses on selling the expertise generated in the planning, research and development activities for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel and on providing consulting services in the field. Mr. Mokka will continue as the President and CEO of Posiva until 31 July 2023.
“I have had a fantastic 20 years in the TVO Group, of which 8.5 years at Posiva. Various positions have taught me a lot and allowed me to meet wonderful professionals and people. Even though I will now be assuming a new role outside of the TVO Group, Posiva’s success and systematic steps as the world's leading provider of final disposal services remain important to me. I will be keenly watching the completion of the EKA project and the beginning of actual production”, Janne Mokka says.
“Posiva also plays an important role in the mitigation of climate change as part of the lifecycle of nuclear power, since a functional final disposal solution allows for utilising zero-emission nuclear power in energy production. Under Janne’s leadership, Posiva has been actively following a path to become the world’s leading final disposal provider. Posiva is currently building an encapsulation plant and an underground disposal facility which received a construction licence from the Finnish Government in 2015. We are now waiting for an operating licence before starting the actual final disposal of spent fuel. I want to thank Janne for his excellent work as President and CEO for Posiva”, says Jarmo Tanhua, Chairman of Posiva’s Board of Directors.
The recruitment process for Posiva’s new President and CEO is under way. The new organisation will be communicated once the selection has been made.
Posiva Oy is the leading final disposal operator in the world, preparing to start in the 2020’s the final disposal of the spent nuclear fuel generated by its owners TVO and Fortum Power and Heat Oy in the ONKALO®facility excavated deep in the bedrock. The Finnish Government granted Posiva the construction licence for the final disposal facility in 2015. The same operating licence process that is required in the construction projects of nuclear power facilities will also need to be carried out prior to the start of the actual final disposal of spent fuel.
