TVO Nuclear Services (TVONS) together with Fortum have signed a two-year framework agreement with Polish Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), a state-owned company responsible for the construction project of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.

The scope of the framework is to support PEJ in the development of operation and maintenance processes of the new nuclear power plant. TVONS and Fortum’s Nuclear Services will provide technical support e.g. for the licensing and design phase of the plant and help PEJ to develop its own internal capabilities to become an operator of a nuclear power plant.

“We highly value the opportunity to support the customer and utilize our long-term expertise with new built projects as well as nuclear power plant operation and asset life- cycle management, most recently the Olkiluoto 3 project (PWR, 1600 MW)," says Ari Leppänen, Managing Director of TVO Nuclear Services.

“Both Fortum and TVO have unique nuclear owner and operator experience and competencies spanning over many decades, which differentiates us from many of the other service providers. We are happy that we are together able to contribute to Poland’s energy transition with our strong competences“, says Anni Jaarinen, Vice President, Nuclear Services at Fortum.

PEJ is responsible for the preparation of the investment process for the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant in Pomerania with a capacity of up to 3,750 MW. Based on the Polish Nuclear Power Program the development of nuclear power is one of the pillars of Poland’s energy transition, which involves construction of safe and modern Generation III(+) PWR nuclear reactors.

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders, Finnish industrial and energy companies, safely and reliably for over 40 years. The island of Olkiluoto produces about 30 percent of Finland's electricity needs. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production. Moreover, the world's first final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is under construction in Olkiluoto.
