Terveystalo Press Release 30 November, 2021

With an agreement dated 30 November 2021, Terveystalo acquires Suomen Hierojakoulut Oy, which is the largest company in Finland offering training for the vocational qualification of a trained masseur.

Suomen Hierojakoulut, founded in 2008, has massage schools in eight locations in Finland: Helsinki, Espoo, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Kuopio, Seinäjoki, Kotka and Porvoo. Suomen Hierojakoulut offers its students high-quality education opportunities and diverse study paths. In addition to student massage, all massage schools offer massage services from trained masseurs. The company has about 100 professionals in addition to 160 students. The revenue of Suomen Hierojakoulut Oy in 2020 was approximately EUR 3.3 million.

Since 2018, Terveystalo has been offering massage services with Rela brand and concept as part of the holistic care chain. The Rela brand includes the nationwide professional massage chain Rela-hierojat Oy and Hierojakoulu Relaxi Oy, which provides training services.

In nine years, Rela-hierojat has grown into a nationwide chain that currently has 73 receptions in Finland and one in Estonia, with almost 350 masseurs. Hierojakoulu Relaxi trains qualified masseurs in four masseuse schools (Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Lahti). The acquisition of Suomen Hierojakoulut Oy supports Terveystalo's goal to continue to grow in preventive wellness services, in which massage services play a key role.

“We warmly welcome the competent group of students and professionals at Suomen Hierojakoulut to Terveystalo. Suomen Hierojakoulut is an excellent complement to our expertise and offering in massage training and services. With the acquisition, we will be able to serve our customers with even higher quality and more comprehensively,” says Marika Kuusela, Head of Unit at Terveystalo Rela-hierojat.

"Through our cooperation with Terveystalo, we will be able to provide higher quality and comprehensive educational services. The social mission of Suomen Hierojakoulut is to act as an incubator for health care professionals. A significant proportion of our graduate masseurs will continue to work as health care professionals and develop additional skills around this basic training. It is our responsibility to ensure that this core is of high quality and thus creates a framework around which everyone can grow as an expert in the field," says Ida Hakola, CEO of Suomen Hierojakoulut Oy.

The change of ownership will not affect the status of persons employed by Suomen Hierojakoulut, and they will continue to work for the company under the new owner.
