Saxmundham’s ‘Live-In’ Care Day corrects negative perceptions

An inaugural event, held by live-in care specialists Christies Care in Saxmundham, has been hailed a success by an audience of more than 60 people from the surrounding community.

The event was held as part of the nationwide Good Care Week, a national campaign which aims to challenge the recent growth in negative perceptions of social care. Speakers from Christies Care and the associations and charities they work with – such as the Alzheimers Society, Age UK Suffolk, community interest company Pastel and Wickham Market Respite Care Volunteers, covered a range of sensitive subjects from coping with dementia to learning difficulties and end of life care.

Audience feedback from members of the public, social care students and people involved with the caring profession confirmed that the day was extremely reassuring and informative. Tips on how to support loved ones, how to finance care and how to get respite were well received.

Christies Care director Lin Barnes said: “While we offer our live-in care service nationally, this event gave us the opportunity to celebrate all aspects of social care at a local level. We were able to build confidence that good care is readily available. It was good that so many people came and we are considering doing it again next year.”
