Quadrille stars selected for Olympia
The 2011 British Riding Clubs Dressage to Music Championships and SEIB Quadrille Selection Trial took place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool recently.
The Quadrille trial, sponsored by South Essex Insurance Brokers, decides the four teams who will compete at the grand final at Olympia on Saturday 17 December. The selection night kicked off with a gala dinner with a Wild West theme. Guests were able to enjoy their meal while watching the turn out section of the evening and the dramatic Equestrienne Wild West stunt show.
Nine teams came forward to compete for the coveted four places at Olympia and Judges Karen Barker, Stephanie Croxford and Karl Ude Martinez had their work cut out from the start as the costumes glittered and sparkled under the lights. The four top spots went to Eldwick Riding Club with their theme of Riverdance, Bath Riding Club with Pride of Bath, Witheridge Riding Club (Witheridge Dragon Riders) and finally St Edmunds Riding Club with Shoulder to Shoulder.
This year saw the Junior Dressage to Music Championship run in a slightly different format. The riders were able to pick which test they rode which added a nice variation to the performances. First place went to Poppy Douglas-Johnson and Last of the Moets from South Western Dressage Group. She rode the Novice Freestyle test gaining a score of 75.42 percent.
The Senior Elementary class was won by Verity Perry, a member of Cornwall TREC, riding homebred Armani, while the Senior Pairs title went to a strikingly similar pair of horses called Max and Otto from Bath Riding Club. Their riders Kim Walker and Georgina Bryce were thrilled to retain the title from last year.
On Sunday attention turned to the Senior Novice to Music classes. The winner of the zero points section for Old Berkley Hunt was Anna Streeter and Masai, finishing on a score of 78.34 percent. Sue Lanz and Friday Morning from Taunton stole the show in the Senior (with Points) section, rounding off the day in style for the South West region and achieving a great score of 73.06 percent.
