Harriet Williams from Whitworth in Lancashire has won the Senior Intermediate Showjumping title in the Amtrust Equine RWHS Unaffiliated Championships at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The competition gives grass roots riders a unique opportunity to compete at Royal Windsor. All competitors are members of the British Riding Clubs movement and earned their places in these finals at individual riding club qualifiers held across the UK.

Harriet rode Hugo who she has owned for around seven years. The pair compete in a variety of competitions, including cross-country which is a favourite for Hugo! At Royal Windsor they were representing their local riding club, Rochdale and District.

The win was a case of ‘third time lucky’ for the partnership as they have twice before made the five-hour journey to the show, only to return disappointed.

“We’ve been down for the last two years,” said Harriet. “The first year we qualified in the top six and Hugo spooked in the final. Last year I won the first heat like I did today and in the final we won the time by about a second and a half but we had a fence down, so I was absolutely gutted.

“I said today, this is the last time I’m coming, if I have a fence down that’s it, I give up! But it’s paid off! It’s absolutely terrific to have finally won, I can’t explain it! I’m just so chuffed for Hugo as well, because he is a good lad and he deserves it, he tries his best wherever we go or whatever we do, he’s a superstar.”

Perdie Reid, Claims Manager at Amtrust Equine, said: “We’ve had an absolutely wonderful show. For us this is what it is all about – supporting grass roots horses and ponies. Riding Club horses are exactly the type of animals we want to insure, so this competition is perfect for us to support.”
