Representatives from the White House, U.S. Military, Departments of Labor and Veterans Affairs, The Buller Group, and Partnering Blackstone Portfolio Companies Meet to Advance Hiring of Veterans

RESTON, VA, September 26, 2013 – Earlier this week human resources experts from The Buller Group addressed Blackstone's inaugural Veterans Hiring Summit regarding the hiring of military veterans across the private equity firm’s portfolio companies.

In support of the White House’s “Joining Forces” initiative, Blackstone committed to hiring 50,000 American veterans across its portfolio of 78 companies over the next five years. The summit was designed to help Chief Human Resource Officers within Blackstone’s portfolio companies learn to hire and retain veterans and to help the U.S. Military and veterans organizations learn how they can help facilitate this recruitment initiative.

Emily King, Vice President of Veteran Transitions at The Buller Group, was among a small, elite group of executives chosen to speak at the summit. With more than a decade of experience working with private sector organizations that want to attract and retain top military talent, she presented “Keys to a Successful Veteran Hiring Initiative.” King is a nationally recognized expert in the transition of military veterans to the civilian workforce and author of the first ever guide for civilian private sector organizations, “Field Tested: Recruiting, Managing & Retaining Veterans” (AMACOM 2012 ).

“Our Buller Group team was delighted to support the launch of Blackstone’s veteran hiring initiative by sharing our insight and expertise about making such programs work,” said King. “We share a commitment to doing it right the first time through thoughtful planning and flawless execution. We look forward to continuing to support Blackstone and its portfolio companies as they pursue their goal of hiring 50,000 veterans.”

In addition to King and CHROs from a variety of Blackstone portfolio companies, the summit featured Col. Rich Morales, Executive Director of Joining Forces at the Office of the First Lady, Col. Robert Yost, Director of the U.S. Army’s Transition Strategic Outreach Office, Curtis L. Coy, Deputy Under Secretary for Economic Opportunity at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Terry Gerton, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) at the Department of Labor.
