SPECIAL DISTINCTION FOR COBLELAND SITE

Camping in the Forest continues to be a conservation leader with its Cobleland Site achieving a Special Distinction Award, in addition to its Gold Rosette, in the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme for 2012/13.

The site was nominated for the Special Distinction Award for the work they have done to promote awareness of the plight of the Red Squirrel.

Cobleland is located within the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in Stirlingshire, Scotland, and is the perfect site to spot wildlife and enjoy a wide variety of outdoor pursuits.

Awards assessor, Russel Nisbet, visited the site and he said: “The reception is worthy of a nature reserve reception, rather than that of a camping ground!”

Cobleland also received positive feedback from holidaymakers and one camper added: “Cobleland is one of my favourite places. It’s really eco-friendly and there are lots of activities for children. One of my best holidays ever!”

Sixteen Camping in the Forest Sites received David Bellamy Gold Rosettes for 2012/13.

The commended sites that demonstrated the exceptional lengths they have gone  to, to protect and enhance the natural environment are: Aldridge Hill, Ardgartan, Ashurst, Beddgelert, Cashel, Christchurch, Cobleland, Denny Wood/Matley Wood, Glenmore, Hollands Wood, Holmsley, Ocknell/Longbeech, Postern Hill, Roundhill, Setthorns and Thorpe.

The assessors look at the steps parks are taking to: manage their land as a haven for wildlife; reduce their use of energy, water and other resources; reduce, reuse and recycle the waste they produce; and support their local communities.

David Bellamy, who is also Club President, uses the assessors’ reports (and any comments received from members of the public) to make his award choices each year. Three levels of excellence can be achieved: Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Bob Hill, Sites Director, is impressed with the level of dedication from the Cobleland Site Team and he said: “I’d like to congratulate Holiday Site Managers, Graham and Lesley Lowgan and their Site Assistants on receiving a Special Distinction Award.

“It’s important we continue to conserve Britain’s wildlife and countryside and we hope it encourages more holidaymakers to enjoy our Camping in the Forest Sites this season.”
