SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Sept. 12, 2014) – In its video series, “An Extreme Calling,” Horace Mann, a multiline insurance company providing insurance and financial services to the education community, takes a lighthearted look at the unique challenges educators face as a result of answering the call to teach.

Every profession has its challenges, but when Horace Mann asked its Educator Advisory Panel to share the funniest things about being a teacher that only a teacher could understand, the responses were both funny and eye-opening, and they inspired the faux reality series, “An Extreme Calling.”  The series features several teachers undergoing intense training to prepare for the school year ahead and will be released via Horace Mann’s social channels.

The first episode, “Two-minute ingestion,” is being released as teachers settle into the routine of the school year and pays tribute to educators’ “speed eating” skills.  Episodes 2 through 4 will have staggered releases via Horace Mann’s Facebook page and horacemann.com over the next few weeks.

Horace Mann also turned responses to the question, “What are the funniest things your students have ever said to you?” into the comic series “Classroom Fun-da-mentals,” which has been featured on its Facebook page and horacemann.com.

“Both the video and comic are our nod to educators having a very unique work day with challenges that just don’t exist in most professions,” says Dawn Klintworth, Vice President of Integrated Marketing.  “At Horace Mann, we want to help educators, and we know to do that effectively, we must first understand the challenges they face.  And if we can do two things at once – let educators know we get them and give them a much-needed laugh, we’ll take that!”
