Spring is a good time to check the springs and suspension

It’s soon to come. Easter is just around the corner, with lots of customers wanting to swap winter tyres right now to approach spring on summer tyres. However, one important, simple and fast service should not be missed in the hectic rush, when you try to serve as many customers as possible. A service that strengthens customer loyalty, improves safety and enables additional business.

Winter takes its toll, also on steel springs and shock absorbers

Increasing use of mechanical grit, which makes sense from an ecological point of view, often results in faster damage to the corrosion protection of springs and spring plates. The same applies to salt, which continues to be used.  Many highways agencies are increasingly relying on liquid salt. This solution has unpleasant side effect that it often sticks longer to the springs and spring plates and greatly accelerates the corrosion process.

A visual inspection of the most important components such as springs and shock absorbers is quickly done. To be on the safe side for your customers, get a screwdriver for a sound check on the spring coils. When in doubt, this will also reveal a hidden broken spring. Why not take the opportunity to check if the water drainage holes of the spring plate are clogged with road dirt? The customer will appreciate this service, provided that the spring plate still is okay.

Even if the inspection of the shock absorbers takes a little more time, they should definitely also be checked. Leaks, defective sleeves and worn bump stops can be noticed at first glance. Otherwise, the test bench is the safer solution when in doubt. And if the spring plate already shows serious corrosion, further checks are inevitable.

If replacing the springs seems advisable, you should opt for uncompromising quality and durability. This is exactly what the BILSTEIN B3 coil springs offer. Their design is identical to OE production and ensures that the handling will be as in a new car.

Safety and comfort: the BILSTEIN B3 coil springs offer extremely high break resistance by using particularly high-quality chrome-vanadium or chrome-silicon steels.

Uncompromising OEM quality: ensures not only an identical spring design as in OE production, but also a high-quality and robust surface coating of the spring steel.

For a wide choice of vehicles: the portfolio offers all technical designs such as pigtail ends, centre of force design and mini-block springs. This ensures a high level of market coverage and also offers reliable availability.

High resistance: efficient prevention of height loss due to heat setting after the forming process and the careful surface compaction and coating in the production process offer an above-average service life.

TIP: even if only the spring on one side of the vehicle is affected by damage, the springs and shock absorbers always have to be replaced on both sides of the axle. Otherwise, safe handling is no longer ensured.

Customers will be grateful for this additional service, as they often only realise the risk they were exposed to when they see the damaged spring.
