thyssenkrupp Crankshaft Co., LLC, a leading manufacturer of high quality forged and machined crankshafts for heavy-duty commercial trucks, automobiles and construction equipment, celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its forging operations in Veedersburg this month.

thyssenkrupp Crankshaft is part of the global thyssenkrupp Forging Group which produces forged and ready-to-install machined components for automotive and non-automotive industries. With ten different plants worldwide, they ensure a diverse range of quality and innovative products. With its U.S. headquarters in Danville, Illinois, thyssenkrupp Crankshaft employs more than 500 people and is one of the top producers of crankshafts for the North American automotive industry. Employing 60 members of Veedersburg’s 2,000 member community, thyssenkrupp Crankshaft is a long time community developer creating jobs and opportunities for people throughout the local areas. Of those 60 employees, 11 are original Veedersburg forgers who have now been with thyssenkrupp Crankshaft for twenty years.

Since opening its Veedersburg Forge in 1995, thyssenkrupp Crankshaft has succeeded as one of the major distributing facilities of crankshafts in the Midwest. thyssenkrupp Veedersburg Forge manufactures 600,000 crankshaft systems per year and distributes them to automotive manufacturers such as Ford and General Motors. Crankshafts are located in the engine of a vehicle and help a car move forward by converting the force created by an engine’s pistons into movement of the vehicle’s wheels. Just one of these Veedersburg forged crankshafts for gasoline engines can weigh up to 80 pounds and can be as long as 24 inches.
