Kemijärvi’s TEX and Sodankylä’s Säästökuoppa to become Tokmanni stores
Tokmanni Press release 3 June 2019 at 12.30 p.m.
Tokmanni is adding the Kemijärvi TEX and Sodankylä Säästökuoppa chain stores to its Tokmanni brand made up of nearly 200 stores, and is reopening them with a new look and a more diverse product selection. The store openings will be celebrated with special offers and surprise buckets containing product gifts on Thursday 6 June 2019 in Kemijärvi and on Friday 7 June 2019 in Sodankylä, beginning at 9 a.m. at both locations.
The refurbished stores are located in their familiar premises at the addresses Seminaarinkatu 2–4, 98120 Kemijärvi and Vuotturaippa 53, 99600 Sodankylä.
Under the Tokmanni brand, the stores will offer compact but comprehensively renewed versatile assortments. The assortments include cosmetics, seasonal and organic products, dry foodstuffs and home consumer goods, such as household items, home textiles and home electronics. In addition, the separate garden departments at the stores will sell various yard and garden products, such as seasonal tools and plants, and propane canisters.
As always at Tokmanni, the redesign of the stores in Kemijärvi and Sodankylä focuses on a quick and easy shopping experience. To bring them in line with the Tokmanni brand, the stores’ general visual appearance and customer experience have been upgraded with signage and shop furniture and by rearranging the aisles and product groups. A pleasant shopping experience is ensured with wide aisles, Veikkaus gaming services and a pick-up point for items purchased from the online store. The Kemijärvi Tokmanni will have about 1,150 square metres of retail selling space, while the Sodankylä Tokmanni will have about 750 square metres.
“We are extremely pleased to be opening our redesigned stores in Kemijärvi and Sodankylä just before Midsummer and the busy summer season. Under the consistent Tokmanni brand, we can offer customers in these locations the constantly renewed product selections and attractive discounts that are familiar from other Tokmanni stores,” says Mathias Kivikoski, Sales and Marketing Director at Tokmanni.
“We have redesigned the layout of the stores, for example, which means they now offer a wider product selection and a more pleasant shopping experience,” he adds.
The Tokmanni stores at Kemijärvi and Sodankylä will be bursting with special offers from the morning of their opening until Sunday, (electronic advertising leaflets in Finnish: Kemijärvi and Sodankylä). And as usual at Tokmanni openings, the first customers will receive free surprise buckets filled with product gifts. On the mornings of the store openings, 500 surprise buckets will be handed out at the stores.
Tokmanni will serve its customers at both localities on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store in Kemijärvi will employee eight people and be managed by Store Manager Teija Kerkelä, while the store in Sodankylä will employ six people and be managed by Store Manager Mika Kostamovaara.
Growth of Tokmanni’s store network continues
Tokmanni's target is to increase its store network to cover more than 200 stores and to increase its new selling area by approximately 12,000 square metres in net terms every year, which means around five new or relocated stores each year. Tokmanni currently has 188 stores around Finland.
The first half of this year has been a very busy time for Tokmanni. In addition to the opening of the Kemijärvi and Sodankylä stores, Tokmanni plans to open a new store in Loppi later in June.
Earlier in the spring, Tokmanni reopened a TEX chain store in the centre of Rovaniemi and eight Ale-Makasiini chain stores under the Tokmanni brand, and a new store in Tesoma, Tampere. In addition, the general discount retailer relocated to new premises in Hanko and Juuka, and reopened a refurbished store on Kehräämötie in Kajaani and a refurbished and enlarged store in Turenki. In Siilinjärvi, Tokmanni centralised all of its store operations into the Tokmanni store that has been in operation in the town for many years by closing the Ale-Makasiini located in other premises nearby.
During the autumn, Tokmanni will expand its store network to two new locations, Vääksy and Virrat.¹)
