New store to take title of northernmost Tokmanni in Finland – Store network to expand to Kittilä, near Levi and Ylläs

Tokmanni, Finland’s largest general discount retailer, has signed an agreement on the opening of a new store in Kittilä, at the address Aakenuksentie 30, 99100 Kittilä. The aim is to open the new store in a new, yet unconstructed commercial building before the end of the current year. Once the new store opens, the Tokmanni in Sodankylä will relinquish its title of northernmost Tokmanni store to Kittilä.
The new Tokmanni store will be serving its customers in a good location in the immediate vicinity of the junction between main roads 79 and 80, about three kilometres from the centre of Kittilä and from Kittilä Airport. The popular ski and tourist resorts of Levi and Ylläs are also nearby, with Levi about 15 kilometres and Ylläs about 30 kilometres away.
“Tokmanni’s diverse assortments and affordable prices attract customers everywhere in Finland, so we’re very pleased to announce that Tokmanni plans to expand to Kittilä. With a comprehensive assortment, the Tokmanni store will be easily accessible from Kittilä town centre and Levi as well as from the direction of Ylläsjärvi,” says Harri Koponen, Tokmanni’s Store Network and Concept Director.
“The Tokmanni store in Kittilä will offer a permanent job for around 15 people. We intend to start recruiting store personnel in the autumn,” he adds.
The store will offer a varied assortment of products
With a floor area of about 3,500 square metres, the new Tokmanni store will be designed to serve both full-time and holiday residents in the surrounding area, as well as tourists. The assortment will include a wide range of beauty, health and wellbeing, interior decoration, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products, as well as non-perishable foods.
“In addition to the warm retail space, the store will include a cold retail area of about 500 square metres, where it will sell yard and garden products in the summer and various snow tools and other winter products in the winter,” Koponen explains.
Convenient shopping and smart energy choices
The new store will be built in accordance with Tokmanni’s latest store concept, which emphasises convenient shopping experiences. For example, it will feature wide aisles, informative signage and well-defined departments for different products. As at other Tokmanni stores, customers will be able to pick up items they buy in the discount chain’s online shop at the new store.
The design of the Tokmanni store in Kittilä will pay special attention to energy efficiency. The store will feature energy-efficient LED lighting, a solar power plant made up of hundreds of solar panels and a charging point for electric and rechargeable hybrid cars. In addition, all of the electricity purchased by the Tokmanni store will be renewable electricity.
Tokmanni’s chain will continue to grow
Tokmanni aims to expand its store network to more than 220 stores in Finland. Currently, Tokmanni has 192 stores throughout the country.
Tokmanni has announced that it will open new stores in several different cities and locations besides Kittilä, including the Kaari shopping centre in Kannelmäki in Helsinki, Kausala in Iitti, Nurmijärvi, and Rusko in Oulu. In addition, Tokmanni will relocate to better commercial premises in Leppävirta and within the Forum shopping centre in Jyväskylä. This spring, Tokmanni relocated its store to larger commercial premises within the Trio shopping centre in the city centre of Lahti.
