New Tokmanni in Kausala, Iitti – The versatile store meets locals’ wishes and complements the Tokmanni network along highway 12 leading from Rauma to Kouvola
Tokmanni Press release 9 August 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
Finland's largest general discount chain Tokmanni will open a modern and pleasant store on highway 12 in Kausala on Thursday, 12 August 2021 at 8.00 a.m. Now launching a store in the centre of Iitti in the Päijät-Häme region, Tokmanni offers its customers an extensive and interesting product assortment and will employ some 15 retail professionals in the new store. Tokmanni has been much anticipated in the town.
Located in a new commercial building by the Kausala roundabout, the new Tokmanni represents the general discount retailer’s latest store concept, which emphasises pleasant and convenient shopping and a diverse product assortment. To ensure a pleasant customer experience, the store has spacious aisles and clearly defined product groups, for example.
The spacious and well-lit store will specifically include a comprehensive assortment of beauty, health and wellbeing, interior decoration, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products, as well as non-perishable foods at very low prices, in the true spirit of Tokmanni. In addition, the garden department at the store will sell a wide selection of yard and garden products, such as seasonal tools, plants and flowers, and propane canisters.
A much-anticipated store
Located at the address Kymenrannantie 4, 47400 Kausala, the new Tokmanni is a perfect complement to the general discount retail network of nearly 200 shops and an online store. For example, Tokmanni has some twenty stores along highway 12 between Rauma and Kouvola.
Tokmanni’s launch in Kausala, the centre of Iitti, has aroused great interest, especially among local residents. The store has a sales area of approximately 2,100 square metres and it is designed to meet the diverse wishes of Tokmanni and its customers.
“We have received a lot of positive feedback on the launch of Tokmanni in Kausala. Opening a new store is always a wonderful thing, and it has been especially important to hear from the locals in Kausala that they have been looking forward to the store,” says Timo Heimo, Sales and Supply Chain Management Director at Tokmanni.
“The modern and spacious Tokmanni, located in a key commercial area on highway 12, offers a very diverse assortment of products and a pleasant shopping experience for the locals in Iitti and other people visiting the town,” he says.
Convenient services and smart energy choices
The Iitti Tokmanni offers a number of services that make everyday life easier for customers, such as a recycling point for small electrical and electronic waste and a Posti Parcel Point. Customers can also order products that are not in the store's own selection from Tokmanni's online store and pick up their purchases conveniently at the store's online store collection point.
Tokmanni also focuses much attention on smart energy solutions. For example, the new store has energy-efficient LED lighting. In addition, the property's building services are remotely controlled through an automated system, so that settings affecting energy consumption can be monitored 24 hours a day and, if necessary, adjusted from a control room. In addition, a charging point for electric and rechargeable hybrid cars for use by customers will be installed later. The store also has one of Tokmanni's solar power plants, of which there already are more than 40. The 320 solar panels located on the roof of Tokmanni in Iitti will produce an estimated 95 MWh of renewable solar power annually for the store's own use. The annual production closely corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 48 small apartments (2,000 kWh/year). In addition to the solar power produced on site, all of the electricity purchased by the Tokmanni store will be renewable electricity.
“We focus not only on low-priced products and a comprehensive product and service offerings, but also on smart energy solutions. The solar power plants installed on the roofs of our stores produce emission-free solar energy that on average is around 15 to 20 percent of a store’s annual electricity demand, and even more than half of the demand in the summer months,” says Heimo.
Professional staff and extensive opening hours
In addition to a wide selection of products and services and modern energy solutions, Tokmanni also focuses on good customer service.
“We have hired some 15 retail sector professionals for the Tokmanni in Iitti. Many of them also live in the town, which will certainly promote easy and pleasant engagement with our customers,” Heimo says.
The Iitti store, headed by Taina Laakso, the Store Manager, has long opening hours and will be open on weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm, on Saturdays from 8 am to 7 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.
Tokmanni takes care of safety in many ways
Special attention is paid to ensuring a safe shopping experience. The safety of customers and employees is ensured with protective screens installed at checkouts and by offering customers hand sanitiser during their visit and reminding them to keep a safe distance with posters and announcements. In addition, it is recommended that face masks are worn in the store. To ensure a safe customer experience, Tokmanni recommends that customers avoid crowds, and may also limit the number of people admitted to the store at one time. More information about safety measures related to the coronavirus pandemic at Tokmanni is available in Finnish on the company website at tokmanni.fi/koronavirus.
To celebrate the opening of the store, the Iitti Tokmanni will have special offers from Thursday 12 August to Sunday 15 August 2021. To avoid queues, Tokmanni will distribute tokens for its famous Tokmanni buckets to the first five hundred paying customers at the Iitti store. By presenting their token, the customers will be able to collect their bucket from outside the store on the opening day safely without having to queue. In addition, a EUR 50 Tokmanni gift voucher has been hidden in two of the buckets.
Tokmanni’s store network will continue to grow
Tokmanni aims to expand its store network to more than 220 stores in Finland. With the store in Iitti, the general discount retailer chain will have 194 stores around Finland.
Tokmanni has announced that in addition to Iitti, it will open new stores in the Kaari shopping centre in Kannelmäki in Helsinki, in Kittilä and Nurmijärvi, and in Rusko in Oulu. In addition, Tokmanni will relocate to better commercial premises in Leppävirta and within the Forum shopping centre in Jyväskylä. Earlier this year, Tokmanni relocated its store to larger commercial premises within the Trio shopping centre in the city centre of Lahti. It also closed its store in Tornio, acquired the TEX retail chain stores in Kemi and Tornio, and refurbished many of its stores around Finland.
