Tokmanni and the John Nurminen Foundation continue cooperation – New campaign for the protection of the Baltic Sea to be launched at the beginning of May
Tokmanni Press release 29 April 2021 at 3:40 p.m.
Tokmanni is continuing its support for the John Nurminen Foundation’s work for the Baltic Sea this year. The money raised through the campaign to be held from May until August will go to the Foundation’s Clean Baltic Sea projects.
Tokmanni and the John Nurminen Foundation, which focuses on the protection of the Baltic Sea and its heritage, will continue the cooperation they began last year by introducing a new charity campaign in which Tokmanni will donate five cents to the Foundation for the protection of the Baltic Sea for each Pisara product it sells from 1 May until 31 August 2021. The Pisara – Protecting the Baltic Sea campaign will be held for the second time. Last year Tokmanni’s donation amounted to as much as EUR 53,000.
The Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world, and its most serious environmental problem is eutrophication. Through their cooperation, Tokmanni and the John Nurminen Foundation are raising awareness of the condition of the Baltic Sea and the efforts to protect it and offering a concrete and very easy way of participating in these efforts.
“The purpose of the John Nurminen Foundation is to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations. At Tokmanni, we consider it very important that we, together with our customers, are able to help the Foundation conduct its impactful protection work,” says Emilia Koski, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Tokmanni.
“We received a lot of positive feedback for our cooperation last year, and we were pleased that our donation ended up being as much as 53,000 euros. Thanks to our positive experiences, we are excited to be organising the charity campaign again. We encourage everyone to buy our Pisara products so as to participate in the protection of the Baltic Sea,” she adds.
The donation will support practical projects for the protection of the Baltic Sea
Similarly to last year, the money raised through the cooperation will go to the John Nurminen Foundation’s Clean Baltic Sea projects. These noteworthy projects help to improve the condition of the Baltic Sea by reducing the load on it and the environmental risks it is exposed to. The Foundation’s work is steered by measurable results and impact.
“We are pleased that the wellbeing of our shared sea is an important issue for Tokmanni. We have conducted several projects that have significantly reduced the external nutrient load on the Baltic Sea,” says Annamari Arrakoski-Engardt, CEO of the John Nurminen Foundation.
“However, there is still a continuous need for protection work. That’s why it’s wonderful that, with Tokmanni’s support, we can further intensify our efforts to protect the sea,” Arrakoski-Engardt adds.
Between 2005 and 2020, the John Nurminen Foundation launched nearly 40 Clean Baltic Sea projects, 30 of which have been completed. Working in cooperation with various actors, the Foundation has succeeded in reducing the phosphorus load that causes eutrophication in the sea by up to 75 per cent within less than a decade.
“The currently ongoing Clean Baltic Sea projects are combatting eutrophication by reducing local emissions from municipal wastewater treatment facilities and industry and curbing the load caused by agriculture through various water protection methods,” Annamari Arrakoski-Engardt explains.
“In addition, the Foundation’s projects are removing the existing load on the sea through fish removal and by mowing coastal reed growths.”
Pisara is a natural choice for the charity campaign
Pisara, which prominently features in the cooperation, is a Tokmanni private label focusing on cleansing and beauty. Launched in autumn 2019, the brand selection includes more than one hundred skin, hair and body care products and other personal hygiene products, ranging from various types of soaps to creams, and from sponges to cleansing wipes.
“The Pisara selection includes a diverse range of products that people need on a daily basis and that meet the latest trends. Thanks to its comprehensive selection and great popularity, Pisara is excellently suited to our charity campaign for the protection of the Baltic Sea,” says Mikko Keskitalo, Purchasing Manager, home and personal care, at Tokmanni.
Pisara is one of Tokmanni’s numerous private labels. Its selection includes more than one hundred different products, including liquid soaps and shower gels, sponges, creams and cotton pads.
Tokmanni will actively communicate about the Pisara – Protecting the Baltic Sea charity campaign in its stores, advertisements, websites and social media channels. More information about the campaign and the Pisara selection can be found on the campaign page www.tokmanni.fi/itamerenpuolesta.
